Holly Constant (00:26.093)
Okay. Okay, well, are you ready?

Madi (00:35.126)
I am ready.

Holly Constant (00:36.361)
Okay, all right. my gosh. Well, this is final finale. Amazing. It is. It's really crazy. Yeah, so last week we did moving up part one. Now we're in moving up part two. But I do want to do a bit of a recap. So in Retta's trailer that I played last week, I

Madi (00:41.951)
Yeah, crazy.

Holly Constant (00:58.217)
was talking about the social media stuff and we were confused because she had made that comment about social media. And I was wondering maybe they were talking about the Twitter scandal for Donna calling Leslie like bitch boss and boss bitch. And I wonder if that was something that they had talked about because I just couldn't think of any other social media thing except for that.

Madi (01:16.821)
Yeah, no, can't either.

Holly Constant (01:19.213)
So just wanted to throw that out there. And then second thing is that I went back and double checked. And yes, Liam Bonneville's name tag is in fact upside down. And Rebecca Veruvians is in fact going inside and outside of her blazer. So they definitely had some name tag snafus. But it seems like Liam Bonneville's was on purpose. So that was good. And yeah, I.

Madi (01:38.925)
Yep.

Holly Constant (01:46.679)
Followed back up with Rebecca Verroovian. Her name is Maura Sodden. And I have not heard back from her. So I don't know if she's on vacation or what, because she was so into it the first one. But something's not clicking. So I hope that I can talk to her. But if not, then I'm sorry that I even brought it up, because I was excited about that. And then the last thing I googled, we did a whole thing on Michelle Obama. I didn't even think about message or.

Madi (01:55.789)
Mm.

Holly Constant (02:14.003)
Asking like how did Michelle Obama even get in the show? Like how did they get her because typically I? Look that up, and I'm like who asked who you know which I'll get into with how the band all these bands got on here But I found an article that said that the show's Twitter account said that it's time to get real about Pawnee's obesity It's a reference to Pawnee, Indiana obviously and the first ladies campaign against child obesity and Apparently the show's star Amy Poehler

Madi (02:17.89)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:43.181)
lent the campaign, the Let's Move campaign, a hand earlier that week when she appeared at a Let's Move event in Miami where Mrs. Obama joked that she and Puller are best friends.

Madi (02:54.957)
That's awesome.

Holly Constant (02:55.853)
So they had a little bit of a collaboration, a collab, as the kids say, where Amy Poehler helped her, and then she helped Amy Poehler. So well, I mean, she helped the show, really. But yeah, I think that's really interesting. So basically, the Let's Move situation was happening during this time, which I knew retroactively. But I think when I was doing all the research on Let's Move, was like my brain was still in the past. Like this had already

Madi (03:02.304)
Yeah.

Madi (03:08.586)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (03:25.119)
moved on, but during the episode last week, Let's Move was in its full force and it was like a promo almost for to be like campaigning for it, you know what I mean? And talking about it and getting folks aware of what was going on. so yeah, that's how she got on the show.

Madi (03:44.106)
Very cool. That's awesome. I'd love to hear that.

Holly Constant (03:45.133)
Yeah. And I'll... Me too. And I'll post that show notes, or the link in the show notes. But okay, well, let's do it. This is the final finale, like I said, moving up part two, season six, episode 22, final, final episode. It's been insane. This episode had so much, I mean, it's just truly astounding, the things that they were able to get done in this. And I am forever in awe of them.

Madi (04:14.676)
Absolutely. Yeah. mean, just the whole thing, right? I mean, I'm sitting down to watch the second half intentionally, right, for this recording. was like, holy crap, there's still so much that happens.

Holly Constant (04:28.204)
I Yeah. I mean, had, I think the first episode I had 16 pages of notes, like not, it's not even a joke. And I think I had, it was in like 12 font. It wasn't like it was large print. So it was like a lot going on. But yeah. So just a friendly reminder that the original air date was April 24, 2014.

Madi (04:35.851)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (04:44.769)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (04:50.784)
Written by Aisha Muharar, R. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Baby Store Lady, and Alan Yang, our bass player of Mouse Rat, and directed by Mike Schur, like I said last week, Mo's from the office.

Madi (05:01.802)
Mo's from the office, which is so funny because this week I watched the episode where Dwight in the office, where Dwight has bought the building. And so he's creating and he's trying to show Jim and Pam that they can send their baby to his daycare. And you open the door and Mike Schur is painting in the dark in the room. It's so I just because we had just talked about how funny it is that that's Mike Schur plays him.

Holly Constant (05:11.923)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (05:17.091)
my gosh.

Holly Constant (05:22.325)
Ridiculous.

Madi (05:31.05)
I think it just hit different. I lost it.

Holly Constant (05:33.072)
Yes, totally. my gosh. And all of the different things they make him do like that, you know? It's just like the most random ass weird stuff and he's just doing it.

Madi (05:38.784)
Yeah.

Madi (05:45.47)
Yeah, gotta love it.

Holly Constant (05:47.839)
Amazing. And we talked about this last week, but just a reminder that a lot of fans were asking, like if you didn't listen to last week, first of all, go do that. But secondly, a reminder that a lot of fans were asking questions like, this the last season? Because it seems like this could have been the last season. And yeah, that's where that Vanity Fair article comes in where these storylines were meant to wrap up the entire show, but NBC then promised them one more season. So that's why it seems like it could be a series finale.

but it ended up being a season finale because we're gonna get a season seven and that's why we have the time jump because that is where Mike Scherr was like, well, I'd rather do something more interesting and just keep what we have than scrap everything that we already wrote, which I think worked out so well and it's perfect.

Madi (06:30.74)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (06:35.263)
Yeah, it's really great, because I did feel like when the episode ended, was like I would have been okay as a fan, right? So.

Holly Constant (06:42.544)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, like the cliffhanger is really cool because you're like, man, where's Ben going in his tux and what is happening and where are they going to end up in the elevator and like, what are they, quote, ready for? Because Ben was like, are you ready? And like, let's just see what they say kind of thing. And so like you absolutely could have, you know, wanted that next season to answer those questions. But but yeah, you it was it was nice to it would have been nice to end it there, too.

So, but I'm glad we get a next season. Very exciting.

Madi (07:17.761)
yeah, yeah, not a long season, but enough to definitely like wrap it up. I like the future jump. Not a lot of shows did that at that time or anything like that. So was really unique.

Holly Constant (07:20.916)
No, very short.

Yeah, the next.

Holly Constant (07:33.325)
Yeah, and I'm really interested to see the things that they said were going to be in the future, quote unquote, like 2017, like the screens coming out of the out of the phone. You remember that? Yeah, and that's like not real at all. But I mean, it could be, I don't know. It's just funny when you think of like Back to the Future and those futuristic shows that we're not even close to like where they thought we would be.

Madi (07:41.15)
Hmm.

Madi (07:46.836)
Yes.

Not a thing. Yeah.

Holly Constant (08:02.579)
We overshot.

Madi (08:03.174)
I know. Well, that's a pretty big jump for three years for stuff to be coming out of your phone.

Holly Constant (08:07.606)
Yeah.

I don't know man. I feel like I understand them because I feel like technology moves so fast and you just like never know what they're gonna come up with next it's ridiculous and 2017 or 20 like like the I don't know middle 27 2015 to 2017 I feel like was those times and you're like wait. What are we doing with technology? Wait, we're like Yeah Anyway, so yeah. Well, I have some rewritten whenever you're ready

Madi (08:28.958)
Yeah.

Madi (08:37.45)
Okay, perfect. Short and sweet today, because we got a lot to cover. The Unity concert is here, and it's time to solidify this merger. Leslie tries to plan for her new job, and Tom opens his new restaurant. Yeah.

Holly Constant (08:50.014)
Yay. my gosh. Okay. Yes. Finishing up everything that we started last week. We're now back in Pawnee. We're not in San Francisco anymore. so very exciting to kind of get this going. So last week I played all the trailer and promo videos, interviewing the cast members at the top of the episode, but this time I'm just going to sprinkle them in as we go because there's still a lot more trailers left, but I feel like it'll be nice to have the trailers happen whilst we're talking about scenes in the time that

you know, we're talking about them. So just be aware that that's what you're gonna hear. Let's see. what I will play is a clip from the DVDs of Amy Poehler, like speaking to the crowd during the season six finale, like while they're at the Unity concert. It's like she's talking to a bunch of extras. She's on the stage. It's really, it's really fun.

Holly Constant (10:06.713)
It's so cute! I love it so much!

Madi (10:10.25)
What way to go out too, because there are so many people there to cheer with you.

Holly Constant (10:16.275)
I know, my gosh. And I reached out on social media to everyone, like to all of our followers and asked if there was any people that were extras and I didn't hear anything back, but I did see some people on IMDB and I'm gonna save that I think for season seven just because like.

There's just so much to cover already. So it was like a lot to add in for me personally, just as one person who does not have an assistant. So I will be doing that for season seven because I think this is one of the times that I want to hear from the extras for sure. Like I always want to hear from the extras, especially if they have interesting stories, but this Unity concert was so massive and was such a like real music festival that, and they got to see like

Madi (10:41.575)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (11:02.091)
The like to get paid to see these bands and to see Mouse Rat like I mean, know extras don't get paid much, but the idea that you're just spending your day seeing this is incredible. And also by this time, I feel like season six finale had. Like it was already they knew what they were doing. I don't feel like the extras are probably waiting around a ton, and if they were, I want to hear it. So that's kind of why I want to ask, because every guest star has said that it's a well-oiled machine. They know what they're doing.

Madi (11:22.322)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (11:31.501)
But this is a whole other like wrench thrown in the plans to have all of these logistics to you know figure out and do so I'm curious what the Extra side was so even if it is a negative like my gosh I was waiting for 50 hours while they got the setup done like I still want to hear that because I think it'd be interesting

Madi (11:34.781)
Yeah.

Madi (11:48.582)
Yeah, absolutely. And the logistics for me, because the amount of stages that they had and like how did they have that set up on on set and everything would be really interesting to me.

Holly Constant (11:51.149)
Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Holly Constant (11:59.958)
Right, yeah, totally. Okay, so I will have that as a recap for season seven. Okay, so we ended the last episode with Jerry, and then we're now on a new scene with Tom talking to Craig, saying he didn't wanna do this, but he had to call in reinforcements to make his restaurant opening get some traction. Then we get the crazies, John Ralphio and Mona Lisa Saperstein, which honestly insane, is insane of an idea, but.

Also, at the same time, it makes sense because they can at least draw a crowd. Like all their crazy people.

Madi (12:30.6)
That's so true. think initially when I was looking at it, I was like, you're not gonna have the work in the restaurant, right? That's gonna be a disaster. But you're right. And then I'm also as a fan, I'm just really excited that we get to see Ben Schwartz again and Jenny Slate because they're so good and so funny together. And I noticed there was a little bit of extra here in their part.

Holly Constant (12:40.097)
Ha ha!

Holly Constant (12:58.805)
Yes, definitely. wasn't as detailed with the added scenes, but yeah, this one, because this one I felt flowed a little tiny bit more. I feel like it wasn't as like, my God, that wasn't there. It was just like they were improvising so much. In fact, there's something on the gag reel. can't remember if I saved it, but there's something on the gag reel where Mike Scherr comes up to them, because they're just improvising and they had already cut.

Madi (13:08.572)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Holly Constant (13:22.657)
They've and they're just but like the camera's still rolling. They're clearly not going to use any of this and make sure it finally comes up and is like, yo, we we stopped rolling slash we cut like hours ago. So that's kind of what was happening with which is totally on brand for them. And yeah, so that's kind of why this one in particular was not such a deleted scene as it is like they were improvising and a fun run. So we can just kind of cut here where we don't need them improvising anymore.

Madi (13:32.848)
my god.

Madi (13:37.969)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (13:52.072)
But I will go ahead and play their trailer. So was Ben Schwartz and Jenny Slate talking about this episode and what it was like to be on set for this. And it was really, really sweet.

Madi (13:58.343)
Mm.

Holly Constant (14:04.885)
Oh, actually, so sorry. I think this might be the gag reel part of it. So sorry. OK, so let's listen to that. And I do have a trailer for them too, but I'll play the gag reel first because that's fun.

Madi (14:09.592)
cool.

Holly Constant (14:46.145)
Okay, that's, yeah. That's where he was like, we cut so long ago, like we're done. Which I thought that was really funny. He comes up like with his little director hat and holding a, not that he, yeah, he did direct this one, but with his little coffee bean cup. And I was like, my God, so cute. But okay, let me see if I can find their trailer too. Because I know that they had one.

Madi (14:53.959)
Yeah, very cute.

Madi (15:04.273)
You

Holly Constant (15:24.883)
Weird. here it is. Okay.

Holly Constant (16:41.165)
You

Holly Constant (18:24.074)
my gosh, they're literally insane. It's so fun to hear them speak as them though, as the actual like people, Jenny Slayton, Ben Schwartz, and how much their chemistry lends itself to these characters and how much fun they have as themselves. So like they can just take it up a notch and make it even more insane and crazy. It's so lovely to see them work together.

Madi (18:26.424)
They're the most ridiculous. Such.

Madi (18:35.129)
Yeah.

Madi (18:48.995)
yeah, the chemistry they have is amazing. and I, I'm pretty sure Jenny Slate has like an improv background too, and she came from SNL, right? So, like, yeah, so just very cool to hear them, hear them together. And they are just the most ridiculous. And they made a good point that I didn't think about is like, they do wear crazy clothes. So I imagine that really helps them feel, feel themselves as the sapristine kids.

Holly Constant (18:57.037)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (19:16.278)
Mm-hmm. Yeah, totally. mean, costumes change everything. Like wigs, makeup, all of that changes everything. That's why I think it was so important, and people should listen to the interview that we did with Kirsten Mann, who does the costumes for the show and just costumes in general. it really... And I mean, I think in your life, that also is important. Like, what you wear really gets you in the right mindset.

Madi (19:20.804)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (19:28.782)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (19:39.289)
But especially for these characters and the sketches and stuff, you become a different person. And you're almost given permission because it's like a shield almost. And you're locked in. It's like a Superman, Spider-Man vibe where it's like, OK, now I am Spider-Man and I am free to do what I need to do.

Madi (19:47.673)
Yeah.

Madi (19:57.208)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (19:57.863)
And yeah, that's what costumes are for them, which I think is, and his hair. I mean, the way they do his hair too, like it's all just like so in tune with who they are as characters. So I love hearing them speak to each other as themselves.

Madi (20:02.379)
Ugh, yeah.

Madi (20:10.402)
Yeah, absolutely. And I like that they say there's an opportunity for them to come back and when they do come back, has been, their moment, one of their moments has become so viral. So very exciting.

Holly Constant (20:21.036)
Yes, so viral, my gosh. And people don't understand that it's from Parks and Rec. I'm always wanting to scream at them. We're talking about the don't be suspicious part. And I'm just like you guys, you don't even watch the show. You need to watch the whole show. People don't understand the treat yourself, Galentine's Day, all of that came from Parks and Rec. Like, it really did. It was monumental in the culture, just saying.

Madi (20:25.801)
I know it's crazy. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, absolutely.

Holly Constant (20:45.926)
which shout out to Alan Yang, cause Alan Yang's one that made Treat Yourself. And then Galentine's Day, I think was Mike Scherr maybe. I'm not sure. I, was probably all of them. But anyhow, so yes, they are dramatic and crazy, but they will probably get their people in there. again, this is where Dennis Feinstein could have come in, but then I had a thought where maybe Dennis Feinstein is like in the secession rally with Jam because he doesn't really love, cause he's technically an Eagleton, right? Or no? No? Maybe he was Pawnee.

Madi (20:54.689)
Yeah.

Madi (21:09.483)
huh.

Madi (21:14.34)
He definitely gives off Eagleton. Because... Yeah, I don't know.

Holly Constant (21:17.502)
Mm-hmm. think he is Pawnee, actually. But so is Jam, so I mean, like, they could definitely be wanting to secede. I, that's what my canon slash backstory for Dennis Feinstein not being there is. Anyways, okay, so, also I was going to say that Mona Lisa was, that writing was so weird, like, you're cool with a four-way with your brother? Like, what?

Madi (21:27.445)
Yeah.

Madi (21:32.843)
I like it. I like it.

Madi (21:44.739)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (21:47.247)
It's so weird. Not surprising. Yes. I also love Jenny Slate's vocal noises. Like when she says like, no, or when Tom says, no, it's nine in the morning. Like it's not a four way. I need your help. Every response is so good. And she doesn't even say anything. my God. It's brilliant.

Madi (22:09.052)
No, yeah, it's all those sounds. And I think she just took the direction of like, you're a whiny child and just ran with it.

Holly Constant (22:17.312)
Yeah, that's kind of a note that I have actually where I just feel like both of their characters are like horny toddlers.

Madi (22:22.935)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (22:25.922)
That really feels like the thesis for their characters, honestly. They're insane. Okay, so this is, maybe I did get detailed. I forgot about this part. I wrote that I do not remember the moment of John Ralphio saying that Mona Lisa had him dress up as her to go on a date with her ex-boyfriend. I feel like that was definitely cut slash added. And I don't know if, yeah, yeah, yes. And I don't know if it was written or improvised, but I think it,

Madi (22:26.69)
Yeah... Yeah...

Madi (22:48.288)
Yeah, the favor thing was added.

Holly Constant (22:55.956)
It has the feel of being written, especially if it was that specific. But yeah, it's really funny because in my head I was creating this imagery where that could have gone two different ways. Either the ex could have beat him up or tried to kiss him or the John Ralphie was into it. I don't know. Obviously they don't talk about that, but I just thought that was such a... That's the...

Madi (23:14.111)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (23:19.05)
really great thing about this writing but also their characters is that I feel like they say one line and it makes your head spin in like five different directions to think of like my gosh the backstory between that one line what is that you know?

Madi (23:32.15)
Yeah, absolutely. When I think it's a... brain just completely lost my train of thought. Crazy. Cut me out.

Holly Constant (23:38.023)
that's okay. It's early.

So Tom says to get all the A-listers, excuse me, Tom says to get all the A-listers for the restaurant and then come and bring everybody there. So it's like really a huge deal at Tom's Bistro. And I love that Craig loves them. I think that makes a lot of sense. They're all so dramatic and loud, but they get shit done in their own way. You know what I mean? Like dream team, especially Craig. that's like the, that's the funniest part is that like Craig to say that he gets stuff done, he's the, he's the stable one in the group.

Madi (24:00.302)
yeah. Yeah. It is absolutely.

Holly Constant (24:13.07)
is so funny to me.

Madi (24:16.404)
Yeah, it's a yikes.

Holly Constant (24:18.966)
Yes. I want to go horseback riding. love that. Like, deal.

Madi (24:24.16)
And my gosh, yeah, deal. I love that interaction. And I love that like John Ralphie had just like vibes on it. He's like, yes, I will go horse prep riding with you.

Holly Constant (24:28.023)
Me too.

Holly Constant (24:31.895)
Yes.

Holly Constant (24:35.474)
I would pay to see them go horseback riding or go karting. Like, my God, so fun. Honestly, my gosh, or I don't know, that could have been a webisode. I'm surprised that they didn't do that. Ugh, so good.

Madi (24:39.231)
Me too. That's how we should have opened Season 7.

Madi (24:49.825)
That would have been awesome.

Holly Constant (24:51.628)
So moving on, Andy says it's Ron's last chance to play at the concert as Duke Silver. Ron wants his music to be private, so he does not agree to play. And that's really sad because we think that we'll never see him again play.

Madi (25:06.368)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (25:08.034)
But it's sweet that Andy tries to get him to, so at least there's that. And so we're at the very last Unity concert planning meeting. This is so sweet. And it happened so fast, but Leslie delegates slash trust Andy to run this meeting. And Andy, not only is his usual high energy self, but he's getting shit done. And we talked about this in the last episode where he really does do a lot of the logistical planning for this. And he's on the phone with the bands, answering questions from their managers and all this shit, all this like,

Madi (25:11.862)
Yeah.

Madi (25:22.849)
Yes.

Holly Constant (25:37.45)
Amazing stuff. Amazing. Beautiful. Like, so I'd like to show that not only is he taking care of it, but Leslie's delegating it too. That's like the growth to the max.

Madi (25:47.37)
That's what I have on here, Is like, good for you, Leslie. Like she just hands it over, right? She's just like, and Andy, this is yours, you take it. And so we get to see such growth from her. And then same thing from Andy, right? Like I doubt he made the board. Like Madison probably did that with Craig, but it's organized. He knows what's going on. But I also made a comment about how like, as women,

Holly Constant (25:54.136)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (25:57.646)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (26:06.647)
Yeah.

Madi (26:15.809)
And I'm not going to, I'm trying not to over-generize, but like I kind of am. Um, that women, like we plan events, we plan parties, we plan dinner, dinners, like everything all the time. And this gives me like, when all of a sudden men can plan something, if it's a fantasy football draft.

Holly Constant (26:35.324)
Hahaha!

Madi (26:37.118)
This is Andy's fantasy football draft. He's like, this is my corner. This is something I'm passionate about. And all of sudden, like, he can just do it.

Holly Constant (26:44.46)
Yes, that's hilarious. Yes, it has to be something that they are super passionate about. But women do things that they're not super passionate about and still crush it. So yeah, I totally understand that. That's a really good metaphor.

Madi (26:58.452)
yet. That helped me too because as we've seen Andy grow as a person, he hasn't grown that much in his intellect. So it's like that validated it for me.

Holly Constant (27:07.438)
Mm-hmm.

Yes, I agree. And like you said, you know, he did have this team of Madison and Craig and April. April probably helped out a lot with the itinerary and him like actually, you know, checking things off the list. But it was Andy that was like speaking to the bands and managers and stuff. So I think that's really cool. Yeah, that it was all teamwork. And that's really what the Unity concert was about of like, how do we make the old combined with the new and the younger kids combined with the people who have

Madi (27:17.246)
Yeah. yeah.

Madi (27:25.278)
Yes.

Madi (27:29.311)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (27:39.321)
been here and experienced and Andy is somewhere in the middle. yeah, it's like, it's really a deep moment, honestly, even though it was not really intended to be very sweet. so Madison is going to man the art tent. Donna's going to, is scheduling and security Larry's job is just staying out of the way. Great. After last week at Tom's Bistro. Yeah.

Madi (27:50.963)
Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.

Madi (28:05.309)
Honestly, fair. Yeah.

Holly Constant (28:09.118)
We don't need Larry, Terry, Jerry doing anything crazy. Okay? Get out of here.

And yeah, okay, I had a note right here that says, kinda to your point, that the work assignments really do look beautiful. Like the corkboard being color-coded was very satisfying to me. So nice. And like really pretty font, so good job, props department, I love it.

Madi (28:25.17)
Mm. Me too. Me too. Love it.

Madi (28:34.813)
Yes, so well done.

Holly Constant (28:37.236)
So April says they need 2,000 signatures for the Pawnee-Eagleton merger preservation volunteer action squad. Which is all on her hat. We need a shorter name. I want that hat, though.

Madi (28:46.335)
Oh, yeah, this is giving Dunder Mifflin fun run though. Like where it just goes on and you're like, why? Yeah. Yeah. Oh my gosh.

Holly Constant (28:51.852)
Yes, totally!

Holly Constant (28:57.176)
This could have been a smarter name. But yes, so we'll remember that it's 2000 signatures because that's important because that will come back later. So that's what we need to make this kind of, you know, wanted in the eyes of the citizens. OK. And then I have an all caps that Leslie's like, let's get to work because it's so fun and cute. And I'm like rallied up. I'm motivated. I'm like, yes, we're doing it. Let's fucking go. It's so amazing.

Madi (29:25.937)
Yeah. Yeah, I think because we've gotten to live the planning of this and all the stuff that went on with like losing chip and coming up with back, you know, backup options, like all that kind of stuff makes us just as excited that it's starting.

Holly Constant (29:30.542)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (29:35.084)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (29:42.019)
Yeah, it's finally here. my God, it's crazy. When you plan something, it's like a wedding or something when you plan something for so long and then you're just like, my God, the day's here, wow. Yeah. So Leslie asks the Parks and Rec people to hang back for a second. And then we have this moment where I do believe there were like certain parts of this interaction that were in the original, but I feel like some things were added. So we get to the festival and it looks like the tents are set up.

Madi (29:50.173)
It's here. Yep.

Holly Constant (30:09.858)
Pyrd is having mixed nuts and Craig asks him to come to the bistro. I really don't remember this part. And it didn't have it as like a deleted scene technically on the DVDs, but in my memory, Pyrd and Joan and literally everyone famous just shows up. We don't actually see how they were invited. So I don't think this was in the original cut.

Madi (30:28.393)
Herd was not. Joan was, though.

Holly Constant (30:29.952)
Okay. Okay. Okay. Which part of Joan?

Madi (30:35.199)
the because remember she meets John Raffio in a little bit. But yeah, this no, no, no, no, but purred specifically, we don't see him get invited in the original. This was added.

Holly Constant (30:40.296)
yes, okay, that part. Okay, I was like, wait, Joan was in this part? No, okay.

Holly Constant (30:48.822)
Yes, yes, Joan and John Ralphie all do have that like weird dance that was definitely in the original. Yeah, for sure. OK, yeah, so Purd was added, but it is cute to see him be asked.

Madi (30:52.744)
Yeah!

Madi (30:58.193)
Mm-hmm. Yes, and his little mixed up moment.

Holly Constant (31:01.74)
Yes. And it is cool to see Craig really working hard for Tom to actually try because he worked really hard on the Unity concert and now he's kind of lending his same passion to Tom Speastro. That's really sweet.

Madi (31:06.665)
Yeah.

Madi (31:16.489)
Agreed.

Holly Constant (31:17.774)
Okay, so quick thing that I wanted to let everyone know. The entire episode moving up part two was filmed at Woodley Park, located in the western region of the San Fernando Valley. So if you're in Los Angeles, it's, I mean, I was gonna say a timeframe for you to get there from like downtown LA, but traffic is just, you never know. anyway, from their website, it says Woodley Park is a picturesque public park located in Van Nuys, Los Angeles. So yes, in the valley.

Covering over 19 acres of open space, the park offers a wide range of recreational activities for visitors of all ages. Throughout the year, Woodley Park hosts a variety of community events and festivals, including concerts, car shows, and holiday celebrations. And it's also a popular spot for jogging, exercising. There's a paved pathway that circles the park. So it says once you get on the 101, like you're looking at about 20 miles,

And there's also a lake there. It's the Sepulveda Basin. if you're familiar, slash if you are near there or near enough, you should totally go take a walk and just look at where it was filmed. And it looks so beautiful. It is this huge grassy area and the lake looks really beautiful too. And there's just so much to do. I saw pictures of car shows like they mentioned on the website.

So definitely go see that will definitely be on my list the next time I go to LA I had no idea it was filmed I mean I knew it was in LA obviously but I had no idea was Van Nuys in this particular park. So Woodley Park.

Madi (32:47.527)
Very cool. I like that they used an actual part.

Holly Constant (32:48.64)
Yeah. Yeah, me too. Me too. So fun. All right. So this is where the news comes. So we ended last episode talking about how Leslie was going to practice telling her news about the job to Larry Jerry, which, again, reminder that was cut. But now we are in the aired cut, like the original air, where Leslie tells the park people that she was offered a job with the National Park Service.

and they're going to move her and Ben are going to move and everyone is so excited for her. I love this reaction. It's so nice because it's not a surprise. Everyone kind of knew that she was going to be moving on eventually. They just didn't know when I think everyone knew in their minds like it'd be it would be like you know they were in denial if they thought she was going to stay there forever which like would be great but like at the parks department specifically you know what I mean? so I love that they're really excited for her.

Madi (33:22.876)
Yeah.

Madi (33:31.473)
Yeah.

Madi (33:39.75)
Yes.

Madi (33:47.78)
Yeah, me too. And I think it makes it easier for her, right? Because I think if everybody had been like really sad or, you know, not supportive, it would have been harder on her to feel like she was letting everybody down. And so it was really, it's really nice to see how much everybody's like rooting for her and her accomplishments, like regardless of where it's going to take her.

Holly Constant (33:57.774)
Mm.

Holly Constant (34:06.71)
Yeah. Yeah, totally. And she says that she's going to have to move in about a month, or Ben says that is when they're going to have to leave. And Tom says, like, what we have to show you then makes this really awkward. And it turns out they made a new statue for the Pawnee Founders Day in recognition of Leslie Knope because she's added to the list of founders since she basically founded this new merged town of Eagleton and Pawnee.

Madi (34:30.118)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (34:36.394)
She basically created it and my gosh that quote is so heartbreaking like a knife to the heart of she never abandoned us. no. boy.

Madi (34:45.945)
Yeah, yeah, that's a definitely E for sure.

Holly Constant (34:49.686)
And that other quote too of, only a moron would ever live anywhere other than Pawnee, Indiana.

Madi (34:56.088)
Leslie, nope. Yeah. my gosh. I can't. Poor Leslie. Yeah. Didn't Ben and Chris also help found this new town? They're kind of the ones that started the whole like, let's help Eagleton. Or is it because it was Leslie's idea that she kind of gets the credit?

Holly Constant (34:59.261)
gosh... I know...

Holly Constant (35:12.972)
Yeah. I guess it was because it was her idea. Yeah, that makes more sense because Ben and Leslie are being Ben and Chris were just trying to help them get out of debt. But Leslie is the one that says, like, I know how we can help them. We have to absorb them. know, so I guess that's why. But I feel like Ben and Chris could have been on the plaque, too, and nobody would have been mad about it because they did help with the logistics of that. So but yeah, I guess it's because it's her idea.

Madi (35:24.518)
Yeah.

Madi (35:28.08)
Yeah. Yeah.

Madi (35:42.396)
Yeah, fair.

Holly Constant (35:44.423)
so let's see. yeah, it really, I mean, it is really touching. And it's so funny that, Andy says it kind of looks like her, which is hilarious because there's not even a face. It's just a statue.

Madi (35:56.61)
Yeah, I can't. He's so funny.

Holly Constant (36:00.267)
dear. But it is so touching. I just love this moment. I think it's a really special time for the Parks Department to recognize Leslie, even though those quotes are crazy. Like the idea is, or the thought is there. And that is, and the idea that they like commissioned this whole statue for her, I think is really special. Like, and she'll be able to stay there in a way. Like a part of her spirit will be in Pony always.

Madi (36:16.24)
Yeah, it really is.

Madi (36:22.192)
Yeah, which should, I think that's probably why she's, I mean, I think she's emotional because the people in her life have acknowledged something she's done and it's a really sweet gift to give her. But I think there's probably a part of her that's emotional about that too. Like this is, this is what I get to leave my town with. It's like this legacy.

Holly Constant (36:41.214)
Mm-hmm. Yeah, totally. Well, then it gets to be that time. The alarm goes off in somebody's phone. I think Andy's maybe, I don't know. And the Unity concert is time. And so we're doing it! And I know that, and I know that sucks for Leslie to start the Unity concert on feeling this like mixed pool of emotions. But that's okay.

Madi (36:52.238)
It is.

We are doing it. For sure, we are doing it.

Madi (37:05.264)
Yeah, yeah, for sure. But yeah, but she, she's ready. Sure her head gets back in the game pretty quick.

Holly Constant (37:13.846)
Yeah, she's ready. She's ready. It's just like, it's always going to, I don't feel like in these kinds of moves, she's still in the thick of it. You know what I mean? Like of accepting it. Like she's made the decision, but like your head has to catch up with your heart and vice versa. like, it's just, you're always going to have doubts. So if you wait until you're a hundred percent ready, you're never going to go. You know what I mean? And that's the lesson I think that a lot of people have been, like that's what this episode illustrates to a lot of people, I think.

Madi (37:21.606)
Yeah.

Madi (37:31.75)
Yeah.

Exactly. Yep.

Madi (37:43.034)
Yeah, agreed.

Holly Constant (37:45.807)
Okay, so now we are at the Unity concert and the Decemberists are here. The Decemberists are amazing. Okay, so we talked about this. I can't remember whose trailer it was in, but just a reminder that the Decemberists have a personal connection with Mike Schur. He is a fan and he previously directed their Calamity Song, that's the name of their song, Calamity Song music video in 2011 and then this was in 2014. So around this time,

Madi (37:50.874)
Yes.

Holly Constant (38:14.894)
Also, side note, I did not know this until I saw it online, but they played on The Office, the farm episode, season nine, episode 17, it's Dwight's aunt's funeral. They played on that episode as well. And that's all because of Mike Schur's connection with them and how he had directed them and is a fan of them. So that's so interesting.

Madi (38:36.602)
That is so cool.

Holly Constant (38:37.848)
I gotta go back and watch that episode.

Madi (38:39.8)
I wonder if they, I feel like there were musicians around the grave.

Holly Constant (38:44.675)
Yeah, I think you're right. Because it wasn't like a stage situation.

Madi (38:46.362)
And I think that's, no, no, yeah. We definitely, definitely, the office in parks ventured into different vibes. Like we never got this big on the office. So it would make more sense that, that it was, I think he, just had musicians at the grave. Well, now I'm gonna have to look it up and go watch it.

Holly Constant (38:59.86)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Holly Constant (39:07.864)
Yeah.

I we have to go watch it and we'll have that as a recap for season 7. Okay so I'm gonna play the trailer that the Decemberists talked about their time on the show behind the scenes so let's play that.

Holly Constant (40:33.358)
That was all. So those are the two. One of them was the last guy who spoke was the one with the glasses, the singer. And just as a reminder, I did not know this, but Bumbershoot is an actual music festival in Seattle. So that's what he was talking about when Mike said that.

Mike Schur and some of his friends went there and were kind of inspired. So yeah, that's really fun. And then like he said, the song they sang is called The Crane Wife 3 and that came out in 2006, but it really was one of their most popular songs. It was also on Scrubs. It was on a bunch of TV syncs, S-Y-N-C. And it's really sad. The lyrics are about an actual bird guessing a crane, because that's what the song is called.

Madi (41:10.094)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (41:17.518)
and she's getting gaunt and the feathers are falling from her skin. And I'm sure it's a metaphor for something, but yeah, really sad. I looked at the lyrics and yeah. And I do, and I feel like even if you don't know the Decemberists, you've heard this song before. You've heard it probably on a TV show or on the radio or whatever, but really cool that they got them.

Madi (41:37.313)
Absolutely. Yeah, I've definitely heard this song before. Definitely gives off those early 2000 vibes, music vibes. It made me think of Wontree Hill because like Wontree Hill is such great music from the early 2000s, like kind of alt-rocky stuff. And so I was like, I bet this song is in there, but I didn't look it up.

Holly Constant (41:43.979)
Yes.

Holly Constant (41:47.47)
Holly Constant (41:53.678)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (41:57.423)
Yeah, probably. Yeah, I bet it is in something similar to that. yeah, the way he sings is very like there was a whole cultural shift in like that indie kind of like vowel shape. And like, you know, like how people kind of made fun of Blink-182 for like the way that that singer kind of like shaped his vowels. Where are you?

Madi (42:11.449)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (42:19.918)
Yeah.

Madi (42:23.469)
Yaaaay!

Holly Constant (42:25.55)
And yeah, the Decembers kind of do that too, which I think is fun. And I will hang my head, which I really love. So yes, really fun. And I like this song a lot, because it's like, I love those songs where the lyrics are really sad, but the music doesn't seem as sad. Like it seems moving, but it doesn't seem like, you know, gaunt.

Madi (42:33.465)
Yeah.

Madi (42:38.371)
Yeah.

Madi (42:43.747)
Yeah.

Madi (42:47.542)
It makes you have to listen to the lyrics more to get the actual meaning behind the words. Yeah.

Holly Constant (42:55.02)
Yeah. So they start off the Unity concert. It's daytime at this moment. And this was real. Like I said last episode, this huge crowd. Just to reiterate, there was no CGI to add in extra people. They had over 400 extras there. I think it was close to 600 from an interview that I read. So that's insane. Usually, extras are not that much. And usually, what happens too, and they may have done this,

Madi (43:11.404)
Wow.

Madi (43:16.054)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (43:21.538)
But still, I think they tried to get it as close to real as possible. I've been in scenes as an extra, like at a basketball game or something, where they fake it, they cheat it, where it's like they show one side of the court and then they like twist it around so like you don't see that the other half of the court is empty. It's just the same people. I do not think they did that for this from what I can tell. I think that they just straight up had the 600 people be the audience members, which is amazing. And if they did cheat it,

Madi (43:40.407)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (43:49.282)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (43:50.956)
I don't care. I will not believe it. don't know. No, they did not. Don't tell me that.

Madi (43:52.502)
Yeah.

Madi (43:55.936)
Yeah. Don't, yeah. Keep it a secret.

Holly Constant (44:01.046)
Alright, I gonna say, I did post about how, and I already said this a little bit, but I wanted to talk to, wanted to tell you guys that I posted about how I wanted to hear from extras at the Unity concert. And in my research, I found a Reddit thread regarding the Unity concert, and there was one guy who said he was an extra. This was posted like two years ago, but I thought it was kind of funny. And I had saved it.

On here and I just wanted to read it. He doesn't have his name on here Thank goodness because I don't know if he would want his spot blown up He said not much to tell when you're BG background I flirted with a cute Brazilian girl found out who the Decemberists were and I think it was a solid 12 Which was nice. I don't know what that means a solid 12 12 like the Brazil. That's probably what it was. Yeah, that was probably and if it's 12 hours and that probably means it's like over time maybe

Madi (44:45.355)
It'll be 12 hours.

Madi (44:53.282)
Hmm.

Holly Constant (44:54.699)
I don't know. And then he also said, or he or she, I don't really know. I'm guessing it's a he because he flirted with a Brazilian girl, but I really actually, it could have been a girl too, so who knows. But it says, I was an extra, did some stuff near Ron's thing, walking back and forth deep in the background. And then I got to listen to the Decemberish, Genuine, and Chris Pratt sing their songs like 15 times each while I pretended to be a concert goer. You can even see me in the shot.

So I thought that was cute, even though I didn't get to talk to anyone for reals. They have a whole Reddit thread regarding the Unity concert. that was also in this Reddit thread, somebody asked, there was discussion about was this supposed to be the final episode. fans were definitely wondering. yeah, he just confirms, this person just confirms. I don't think any part of the show was filmed on location except being in London.

Madi (45:27.52)
Yeah, that's still cool. Yeah.

Madi (45:39.736)
Mmm.

Holly Constant (45:53.92)
And then, yeah, he does confirm and he did his research, I suppose, because he says that the show was filmed in LA at CBS Radford. That is real. And Pawnee City Hall is Pasadena City Hall. That is also real. And yeah, Sepulveda Basin. But there were plenty of shots and parts of the show that were on location, as we've talked about. But this particular episode was, yes, in San Francisco and at the Van Nuys Woodley Park. So I thought that was cool that I randomly found that

Madi (46:14.008)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (46:22.783)
I did find an extra. So that's fun. And I'm glad that I got that information. It was just a lot of walking back and forth, which sounds about right. So because they had to have people walking back and forth when Leslie's talking to the parks people about taking the job and that kind of stuff. yeah.

Madi (46:23.318)
Yeah. Yeah, you did. That's cool.

Holly Constant (46:43.895)
Okay, so yes, and just a reminder that at the Harvest Festival, they added a roller coaster in post-production, but this Unity concert is legitimately all these people, all those tents, like it's a true festival. took days and days to set up, and they really spared no detail. So, I love that.

Madi (46:58.688)
Yeah, for real.

Holly Constant (47:00.941)
I also love that the Decemberists had a line that both of the buns were pizza in this hamburger that they ordered. They're like, I love this town.

Madi (47:10.174)
Yeah, so good. So well delivered too.

Holly Constant (47:13.741)
man. Okay. yes. And I was going to ask too, like, did you listen to the Decemberist a bunch when you were younger or you don't really remember them?

Madi (47:24.45)
no, I, I mean, I did like what if they were on like a playlist or something. I'm like, so I've heard their music before, but it wasn't like I'm a December fan. Yeah.

Holly Constant (47:28.781)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (47:33.043)
Right. Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat. Yeah, totally. OK, so Joan is giving out her autograph saying she hopes she doesn't see it on eBay, which I don't remember that particular part. Like that line, feel like, was cut from the original air. But I do remember the, gots to stop by from John Ralphio speaking to Joan.

Madi (47:45.376)
Yeah.

Madi (47:49.289)
Agree.

Madi (47:53.344)
Yeah.

Yeah, who's this tall drink of water? She says like, will he be here or whatever she says.

Holly Constant (48:00.959)
Right, right, right. he has, John Ralphio has two ankle bracelets. Your boy's a question on the bar exam. My God, he's so silly.

Madi (48:08.66)
Yeah.

Oh, he is so silly. He's so good. I love this partnership kind of though, because they're both a little damaged. They're both a little crazy. I think they could make each other really happy.

Holly Constant (48:19.022)
Yes, a little crazy, a little mentally unwell.

Happy and oblivious. Yes. Yeah, and they're like both egging each other on. Really so funny. Do with their little dance. my gosh. Okay. And it is nice to see that John Ralphie was actually pulling through. Like he's talking to people on Tom's behalf. You know, he didn't just forget about it. So that's nice. Okay. Right. Yeah. Now he talked to one person. He's done.

Madi (48:28.595)
Yep. Yep.

Madi (48:41.886)
Yeah.

Madi (48:45.479)
No. Yeah. He might now.

Yeah.

Holly Constant (48:54.358)
OK, so Ben and Leslie are going over all the benefits with Grant for the new position. The dental plan is more than fair. I love that Ben has that little idea.

Madi (49:04.775)
Yeah, of course. This seems like such a weird place to be doing this. No?

Holly Constant (49:09.106)
Yeah, I don't know. guess, I don't know really, to be honest. I guess Grant wanted to stop by and see how the Unity concert is going. And it is funny to me that I would imagine that Grant does not live in Indiana. I'm guessing he lives in Chicago or some like where the actual office is potentially, maybe even DC. I don't know. So the fact that he's in Indiana so much just to talk to her like briefly does make me laugh. However, you could definitely create

Madi (49:22.984)
No, yeah.

Madi (49:33.343)
So true.

Holly Constant (49:37.908)
a backstory that he has some other like parks work to do in Indiana or some shit, but it just, it is funny that it doesn't quite make sense in the reality of it, but we love it.

Madi (49:48.649)
Yeah, care for it.

Holly Constant (49:51.043)
and also he needs to be there so that he can tell her like, can hire whoever you want so that we can get the storyline of her trying to tell other people to come with her, you know? okay. And then Jam comes up. This is the most infuriating, stupid stuff. John Glaser does such a great job here. I cannot get over how like astute and parallel this moment is for what we are going through currently. Cause Jam hands out secession rally flyers and says,

Madi (50:00.553)
Yeah.

Madi (50:17.812)
Mmm.

Holly Constant (50:20.876)
This party sucks to the people who planned it like so casually, but it feels so relevant with the alternate Superbowl that we had earlier this year. Fucking Kid Rock who is so irrelevant, so jam coded.

Madi (50:24.37)
Yeah.

Madi (50:31.484)
Yep, very, yep.

Yeah, holy yeah, what a choice

Holly Constant (50:39.404)
Like so shriveling skeleton corpse man, Kid Rock, doing his fucking workout with RFK and his fucking jeans is exactly what this like weirdo cherry pie based player thing like that I feel like is such a like parallel moment here correlation. Yeah, that Jam talks about this at his other like he's gonna have his whole other concert and he doesn't even have

Madi (50:44.638)
huh. Yeah.

Madi (50:55.411)
Yes.

Correlation. Yep.

Holly Constant (51:05.946)
That's what's so funny too. that's what's so like, that's why I can't believe this Kid Rock thing was real because like the people that Jam is talking about aren't even real performers or real bands. They're just like, yeah, the guy from Cherry Pie like might come by and like this weird cover band might be there. Just like.

Madi (51:16.616)
Yeah.

my gosh.

Well, yeah, and I had never heard the other people other than Kid Rock. So I heard Kid Rock and I was like, eww, why? And then I heard two other names or three. And I was like, I don't know who any of those people are. So great get, you guys.

Holly Constant (51:30.476)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (51:37.355)
Yeah, totally. And they're all terrible. just like, mean, yeah. And I mean, I saw like little clips and stuff and it was so again, with this show, I mean, just like life imitating art with the public and the government side of it. Like the one country singer that they had at that fucking alternate reality Super Bowl was so Chip McCapp coded.

Madi (51:40.613)
Yeah, and they're all awful.

Madi (51:52.946)
Yes.

Madi (52:02.566)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (52:02.65)
so so so Chip McCapp coated about like beers and trucks and I just want to mow my grass. Are you serious? Question mark? This isn't real. This can't be real. But it is.

Madi (52:05.542)
Yes.

Yeah, for real. Yeah. It is real. We do live here. This exists and I hate it.

Holly Constant (52:15.914)
I know, and I just like, it's so wild to me. I think I was just like, I'm still in shock when I think about like, that Jam is having a secession rally because it's nothing new. I think it's nothing new that in our lifetime, people have always wanted to secede from the good guys or whatever. But like, I guess it's just the fact that we're living in it and seeing it in real time compared to a fictional TV show of these dumbasses that you can tell are clearly the villains. And then we're seeing that reciprocated or

Madi (52:25.288)
Yes.

Madi (52:32.007)
Yeah.

Madi (52:42.428)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (52:44.96)
illustrated and mirrored in what's actually going on in the world is so shocking.

Madi (52:50.768)
It's nuts because also if you think about it, when we've watched Jam in the past, when we've watched these things where we're like the Pawnee people are like, what? you know, when the, it came out, you're like, yeah, this place doesn't exist. Like this is like, you know, this is so unique. And now you're sitting here and you're like, I live this. Like when he walks away, when Jam walks away and Grant is like, that guy was a council councilman. I'm like, yeah, that's what we're living in. Yeah.

Holly Constant (53:03.758)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (53:17.854)
Leslie's like crazy right? And she's the one that got recalled.

Madi (53:20.253)
crazy right? That's how I feel. Yeah. That's how I feel all the time right now. It's like that's their... seriously we're letting them do that? my gosh. Crazy.

Holly Constant (53:30.668)
Yeah, yeah. And like, I think it's also shocking and surreal too, because what's happening in real life is way more dangerous and legitimate, like legitimately dangerous than what's happening in the show, obviously, because in the show you're just like, this is fictional, whatever, it's like just for the laughs. like, mm-hmm.

Madi (53:39.015)
Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Madi (53:50.331)
Right. And at a smaller scale, right? It's Pawnee. Like right now we're living the entire country.

Holly Constant (53:55.403)
Right, but I think that's like the illustration of it, that this shit starts in small towns. All of these people were in small towns, local shit is where they test it. And then that's how it expands. That's why your local government is so GD important. And these local elections are not something to sniff your nose at. You have to go vote for those too, because you are, this is the testing ground. And that's what they do. It's like so important.

Madi (54:00.411)
So true. Great point.

Madi (54:08.531)
Hmm.

Madi (54:13.587)
Yeah.

Madi (54:19.175)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (54:25.14)
and surreal. Wild. So anyways.

Madi (54:25.735)
Such a great point. Yeah. Gosh, yeah. I text you this regularly when new information comes out, but I just say I hate it here. And that's my comment here.

Holly Constant (54:38.51)
I

my God. I know it's so hard to have faith in America, like at the same, I just go back and forth. Like I have such like hope for the potential. I like, I love what America can be and how it's tried so many different things and experiment. And just like, think of Hamilton too, like him calling America the great unfinished symphony. Like it's so real. And yeah, it's really, it's tough. It's a tough.

Madi (54:53.734)
Yeah.

Madi (55:03.537)
Mmm.

Holly Constant (55:08.878)
side note, No Kings Day, I hope people went to that. No Kings Day is actually today when we're recording and I unfortunately have to work after this so I was not able to go but I went to the last two and I'll be voting and posting about it too. So if you can't go, it's not the end of the world because there will definitely be more. Like hello, we have four more or three more years left of this. There will be more. So you know, like follow all your local organizations and stuff like that but you know.

Madi (55:28.219)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (55:35.596)
If you did go to No King's Day, I'd love to hear how it went. And I'm sure I'll see it online too. And thank you for going if you did go. anyhow, okay, moving on. well, not really moving on. There was a joke at the Oscars. I don't know if, did you watch the Oscars?

Madi (55:41.809)
Definitely.

Madi (55:52.909)
No, but I've seen some clips from it. We, I can't remember what we were doing. I can't remember what we were doing. Yeah, was Sunday. That was weeks ago, but we did put it on for the last, we saw the last three winners. Yeah, but go ahead.

Holly Constant (55:57.998)
It was a Sunday night.

Holly Constant (56:07.178)
Okay. I was so behind. Well, I was so behind on watching all the movies. I haven't even watched all the movies. And you know me, that's like some that's saying something. I think it's because of this like administration and I'm tired and I have 9000 things going on in my life right now. like

Madi (56:13.528)
Mm, yeah.

Yeah.

Holly Constant (56:23.764)
the last just for people who care at all. am like the Oscars is my Super Bowl and I watch every single best picture. I usually have some sort of viewing filming party, but I moved and I just it's been too much going on to watch all of them. So I have it planned for I think April is when I'll have a lot more free time. So I'll be able to watch some movies and I'm really excited to watch all of them and come up with my pick. I still from what I can see.

Madi (56:23.909)
Yeah.

Madi (56:30.299)
Yes.

Madi (56:50.801)
Yes.

Holly Constant (56:51.95)
support for the most part the choices that were made. However, the best picture one battle after another. I'm just like, okay, I do love Paul. What's his name? Paul Thomas Anderson, the one who wrote it. Is that his name? The one that he's married to Maya Rudolph. Did you know that? Amazing.

Madi (57:03.077)
Mm. Right, yeah.

yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. When he stood up and kissed her, I was like, what?

Holly Constant (57:13.387)
They're so good at keeping their private life private because I did not know that. And what a power couple. My god. Amazing.

Madi (57:15.995)
For real. Yeah.

For real. Yeah. The only movie I saw this year in that, all those choices was Sinners, which was wonderful. It was, it's very well done. Very, it's great. You're going to love it. And I do, I do love, I, you know, I don't have anything to compare it to, but Michael B. Jordan played two twins who had very different. So I, when I heard he won, was like, good for you, dude. Like that.

Holly Constant (57:29.677)
Mmm. I haven't seen it yet.

I'm so excited.

Holly Constant (57:43.112)
Right, yes.

Madi (57:50.129)
Like that was a quite a performance that he put on. So yeah, I can vouch for Holly. We, when we live together, this is what we did that, that year that we lived together is we sat and we watched every Oscar movie before the Oscars. That was the year her was nominated because I remember you and me and Sean in your room watching it. we were like, uh, yeah, this is weird. Yeah. It's still weird for real.

Holly Constant (57:52.632)
Totally.

Holly Constant (58:06.85)
So awkward.

Holly Constant (58:11.372)
This feels weird. It felt weird at the time. And it still does when you really think about it. But like how far ahead of their time they were because now people are absolutely having like relationships with fucking Siri. Insane. my God. Yes. Co-pilot all that stuff. Yeah.

Madi (58:22.606)
Yeah, yeah, and chat GPT. crazy. But yeah, anyway.

Holly Constant (58:31.402)
Yeah, and also Sinners has Hailee Steinfeld in it, which for those of you who don't know, A, I'm a fan, but B, she was half of the reference tracks when I did my record, when I did my album. I was like, I want it to sound like Hailee Steinfeld. And speaking of Sean, Sean is the one that did the record. So that's such a fun connection. the reason I'm bringing up all the Oscars is that there, and I know enough about it to like,

Madi (58:33.934)
Yes, I love her.

Madi (58:44.494)
Yeah. Yeah. There you go.

I love her too.

Holly Constant (58:56.172)
be excited because Ryan Coogler also won for the screenplay and the actual like subject matter and their performance at the Oscars they had and it's a musical so like of course I love it or like there's music involved in it but they had a performance at the Oscars which was hilarious I'm not hilarious the reason I said hilarious is because they had a ballerina who like came out of retirement and like was doing her ballerina dance right in front of Timothy Chalamet who made his dumbass remarks which I was like suck it Timothee

Madi (59:03.588)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (59:22.06)
Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, for real. Have you seen people calling him Toyota Chevrolet? Yeah. I was like, dude, what are you doing? just stop talking. Shut up.

Holly Constant (59:27.662)
But, my God, no, but that's amazing.

But no, what are you doing? That was really irrelevant. About, yeah, I just, that whole thing about like him bashing on them while he does a movie about ping pong is hilarious. Yes, on SNL, yeah, totally. But I mean, like also ping pong is really relevant, or not relevant, is really like hard too. Like when you get up into the championships. So like, why are we bashing any of it? Like shut up, they're all valid, whatever.

Madi (59:47.6)
I know Colin Jost made a joke about that on SNL. Yeah.

Madi (59:57.933)
It's a yeah.

Madi (01:00:01.815)
Right, yeah, for real. Yeah, I think dating Kylie Jenner has given him too much confidence.

Holly Constant (01:00:07.084)
I don't know. I've always been on the train. And we'll get back into Parks and Rec, I'm sorry. But I've always been on the train. I think he's a fantastic actor, but I've never understood the sex appeal and you're so amazing. You're the next Leo whatever. And even Leo has his issues too. I've never felt that way about Timothy. So I don't understand why there was this hoopla around him.

Madi (01:00:12.55)
Yes.

Madi (01:00:17.571)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:00:34.082)
But I do feel, I have respected him as an actor, but I was always confused by this whole, my god, he's so hot, and my god, he's the best at everything he does, and I'm just like.

Madi (01:00:34.607)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:00:43.727)
I don't know. I'm with you.

Holly Constant (01:00:46.196)
But like I said, he's a good actor. So I mean, that's really all I'm asking of these people. And to not bash art that you are, you know, gaining money from. You know what I'm saying? Anyways, but the whole reason I bring this up is because there was a joke at the Oscars that Conan made that there was an alternate Oscars that Kid Rock is hosting. And I thought Conan did a really good job of bringing that up, which is leading us back to the secession rally of Parks and Rec.

Madi (01:00:51.823)
Hahaha

Yeah.

Madi (01:00:58.585)
For real?

Madi (01:01:06.511)
Yes, I saw that.

Madi (01:01:15.31)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:01:16.526)
And that's what's so infuriating is that they're sad really at the end of the day, because they're purposefully dividing everyone. And I love this literal illustration of like, it's like an actual division and secession for Jam on this side and then a unity concert for Leslie and it just like...

Madi (01:01:24.323)
Yeah.

Madi (01:01:34.54)
Mm.

Holly Constant (01:01:36.908)
you can see which one of the moral values you'd like to support and which one is right and which one's wrong. And it's like, it perpetuates this whole us versus them, which is what we're in currently. And it really sucks that we can't all just like unite against one, not against, but for one cause, bringing people together. It's like, how can you be mad about that? It's so bizarre to me.

Madi (01:02:02.136)
Yeah, yeah, agreed.

Holly Constant (01:02:05.141)
So, Jam, get out of here. And I'm glad that your concert sucked. Loser behavior. Like truly, all these dummy, like wannabe country club hoes is exactly, like in our administration is exactly what Jam is doing. Like you're losing and you're acting like it. Like true loser behavior. Also, I mean, but John Glaser does a great job here. I don't know if it was written. I'm sure it was, but when he's like, rock and roll poison. What is that? Just general rock and roll, you know.

Madi (01:02:09.27)
Yeah. Yeah.

Madi (01:02:20.844)
Yeah. Yeah.

Madi (01:02:30.37)
What is that?

Holly Constant (01:02:36.013)
Exactly. my God. Anyway, so Grant is talking about staff. This is the part we were talking about and saying there are openings left in her department that she can hire if she wants to. And so now Leslie gets it in her head that she can hire her own people, know, AKA the parks people. And I think me as an audience member was like, no, no one's going to move to Illinois with you. Don't set yourself up for disappointment by asking them and then them saying no. And like,

Madi (01:02:36.194)
I don't know if he's ever listened to rock and roll in his life from that comment.

Madi (01:02:55.725)
Yeah.

Madi (01:03:03.394)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:03:05.781)
I'm sorry, but what would they do there? Like they don't have the passion for parks that you have on this level. Like that's where my head went.

Madi (01:03:12.309)
Yeah, yeah, and I think that's where we're getting like a Leslie.

fantasizing moment again, just because that would be my first thought, right? Like if I was in her position and I was like, there's two open spots, I'd be like, no, like nobody's heart is in this the way it needs to be to move, right? She just wants to keep her people close, which is valid, but she's not thinking through the next step yet.

Holly Constant (01:03:21.708)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:03:34.881)
Right.

Holly Constant (01:03:39.436)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:03:43.597)
Yeah, but I can't blame her for at least floating the idea to them at the same time. Like I absolutely understand her thought to make this solution in a way to keep her people and avoid change. Cause it would be so much easier if she could like ease into the transition and like she's almost kind of clinging to any sort of control that she has. And she also like Leslie is similar to me and many people I think where it's like, I'd rather ask and

Madi (01:03:46.709)
Mm-mm. Yeah.

Madi (01:03:59.319)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:04:10.786)
have the answer instead of wondering like, what if I had asked them and they said yes? You know what I mean? Like she needs the no, you know what I mean? To draw that boundary. Yeah. This is where I had my note because this is where the Dezembras come back, they're singing their song and doing their little like indie vowel thing. I will hang my head. So good. Yeah, what I wouldn't give to be an extra in this crowd, cause then genuine comes here. Genuine? Genuine.

Madi (01:04:15.339)
Yeah. Yeah, and I can yeah, I can respect that for sure. Yeah.

Madi (01:04:30.614)
Yeah.

Madi (01:04:40.706)
Genuine.

Holly Constant (01:04:40.942)
The genuine? Genuine. Okay, let's listen to his trailer. He has a little behind-the-scenes moment.

Madi (01:04:45.109)
Love it. yay!

Holly Constant (01:06:46.184)
He is so sweet!

Madi (01:06:48.104)
Yeah, he's a super sweet heart it sounds like. That's so cool. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:06:51.916)
know it sounded so fun to listen to him speak as himself and the idea that like, I don't know, 20 years later or something like more than 20 years later, this song comes back to bring you this next level of like entertainment is so crazy.

Madi (01:07:04.692)
Yeah.

Madi (01:07:09.8)
Yeah, absolutely. He also has one of my favorite lines in the show in his scene here. And so, the quacks in five.

Holly Constant (01:07:16.502)
Which one?

yes, so good. my God. Love that.

Madi (01:07:22.333)
The writing is so good and his delivery it was just so well done. So yeah, yeah, I love it.

Holly Constant (01:07:27.166)
I know, he's funny. And this takes me back to season whatever, three maybe, when Anne didn't know who Januine was and then Donna's related to him. And it's just funny that Anne, sorry, Rashida Jones did know who Januine was. She was probably one of the only one in the cast that knew because of her dad, Quincy Jones, who has worked with all of these people.

Madi (01:07:50.624)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:07:52.526)
And so I thought that was like hilarious. They talk about that actually on Amy Poehler's podcast I think Rashida was like the first or second maybe second interview that Amy ever did and they talked about that how it was like really ironic because she was the one that actually did know genuine and yet her lines were all like I don't know who he is like saying his name is not gonna make me know him I thought that was just so ironic and funny Amazing

Madi (01:08:03.244)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:08:07.948)
Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So good.

Holly Constant (01:08:16.661)
And yes, this is where you were talking about his line. Donna's like, listen, you're coming to this party, the Tom's Bistro party, because I have dirt on you from when you were young and how you cried whenever I took away your rubber duckies. Don't bring the quacks and five into this. And I feel like the other bands and artists didn't really have lines apart from Jeff Tweedy from Wilco slash Land Ho. So I love that Genuine got a line or a couple lines. He comes back. So that's awesome.

Madi (01:08:23.306)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:08:29.642)
through five into this.

Madi (01:08:41.823)
Yeah.

Yeah, well he's one that makes the most sense for them to actually have conversation with because Donna's related to him.

Holly Constant (01:08:50.219)
Yeah, and because we had mentioned him before, you know, so that makes a lot of sense. OK, so let's see. I had to give a back story here because great job to the writers producers. OK, so I found this. I can't remember which episode or which article I found this on, but showrunner Mike Scherr wanted to create a revisionist history.

Madi (01:08:53.296)
Right. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:09:13.025)
where Genuine's iconic song was actually written out of love for Pawnee's beloved mascot, Lil Sebastian. That is so hilarious. Like, Pony was not about this sex moment. It was about Lil Sebastian. I think that is amazing. And I love this picture I think about. When I think about Genuine on Parking Rec, I always think about how he opens his arms up and he's like, my Pony! That's what I always imagine him. Yes.

Madi (01:09:20.914)
I love it.

Madi (01:09:25.363)
Yeah.

This is so good. Yeah.

Madi (01:09:40.297)
That's my favorite. Yeah. You're my pote. The banners drop.

Holly Constant (01:09:42.729)
It's so good.

Yes. so good. So iconic and dramatic. And I love it. And yeah, I really is keeping in tune with the fact that Mike Schurr slash the writers really love 90s music because, you know, like Ben's early 90s party, although this was 96. So maybe it was late 90s, but that you can kind of see where the writers music interests are, which is really interesting to me. OK, so Leslie is backstage.

Madi (01:09:53.834)
Yeah.

Madi (01:10:10.452)
Yeah, yeah, it's cool.

Holly Constant (01:10:15.507)
just so overwhelmed with love for Jenny Wine recognizing Lil Sebastian. my God. mean, I think if we hear this anywhere and we think of Lil Sebastian, Parks fans do anyway, you know?

Madi (01:10:25.93)
Mm hmm. Yeah, absolutely.

Holly Constant (01:10:29.093)
Can I also just say really briefly that I do not like when people say little Sebastian instead of lul. Yeah, people even on the show have said little Sebastian and I'm like, it's lul. It's lul.

Madi (01:10:34.549)
yeah, no, it's low. Yeah.

Madi (01:10:40.129)
no.

Holly Constant (01:10:43.959)
but I get it, it's fine. Yes. Yeah, I just think it's, I can't get over it, that it's just so hilarious that the song is about a woman riding him like a pony, and now he's singing about little Sebastian. But you know, little Sebastian was kinky, he had a girlfriend. And a huge horse penis, so you know what? It tracks. Okay, let's see.

Madi (01:10:44.138)
It's very important. Yeah.

Madi (01:10:54.516)
Yeah.

Madi (01:11:03.102)
and a huge horse penis.

Holly Constant (01:11:13.065)
Leslie asks Ron first. yeah to be Yeah to be the staff and to move and I'm like Leslie, you know that answer but in I know and I'm like

Madi (01:11:20.446)
Yes.

Madi (01:11:24.286)
He just laughs, which is fair. The federal government, Leslie.

Holly Constant (01:11:29.907)
I know, yeah. But again, in true Leslie fashion, it's like she has to ask and find out the answer, I guess, even though she totally knows it. Yikes. What are fried sausage quilts, I wonder? I'm guessing, like, I'm imagining, like, the size of a baby blanket quilt, but made of sausages. I don't know. Okay.

Madi (01:11:35.462)
Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah.

Madi (01:11:44.222)
Me too. No idea.

Madi (01:11:53.064)
Yeah, yeah, but he's gonna buy the booth.

Holly Constant (01:11:56.481)
Yeah, he's gonna buy the whole booth so he'll find he'll figure it out. He I don't even think he knows what it is. He's just like I need to go buy that whole thing.

Madi (01:12:01.906)
Yeah, yeah. I love their shirts, by the way, because a lot of people are wearing jackets or flannel or whatever over it, but like Ron's just wearing the shirt, so it was easier for me to see.

Holly Constant (01:12:06.04)
me too!

Holly Constant (01:12:12.512)
Yes, I love it too. I want one of those shirts. I'm sure you can buy them now.

Okay, so Freddy's spaghetti comes in. He was so mean.

Madi (01:12:20.873)
way.

He was so mean. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:12:25.186)
First of all, but secondly, this is cut. Like this is not in the original air. So this is added to the Peacock version. Andy is like, my gosh, hey, big fan. And then Freddie Spaghetti is like, I had this place on lock before you. And you're in like a competition for me with the lonely moms. And then you come out of nowhere and spill my spot. Like, my god, so crazy.

Madi (01:12:28.466)
Yeah, this is Adam.

Madi (01:12:49.448)
Yeah, that's crazy. I'm glad they cut it because I think we're all left with such a different view of Freddie's spaghetti. So I like my original view.

Holly Constant (01:12:59.502)
Ha

Well, I like that, yeah, I kinda like that. Well, cause we knew that he was like, kind of mean in a way, not mean, but like he was all about the who's gonna pay him because remember that when the Freddy's spaghetti thing happened last time, like Ben had to go get him, like, cause he canceled on them for that one park event. And then I like his psychotic moment of like, he's mean and then he sees kids coming around the corner, like, hey guys.

Madi (01:13:14.087)
Right.

Madi (01:13:20.211)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:13:27.35)
and turns all happy performer. Like, I really like how sociopathic he actually is. I don't know, I liked seeing it. It's like, what an interesting layer to Freddie's spaghetti.

Madi (01:13:27.996)
Yeah.

Madi (01:13:32.057)
Yeah.

Madi (01:13:36.104)
That is a very interesting layer to spread it. Get the Freddy spaghetti. That's a great point. Oh my gosh.

Holly Constant (01:13:41.91)
And I love that Andy doesn't take it seriously. Like he doesn't even know what Freddie's spaghetti means. He's like, okay, all right, whatever. Yes, a hundred percent. I'm glad he didn't know that he was being mean.

Madi (01:13:47.613)
Yeah, which is for the best. Yeah.

Yeah. Before we go to Andy, I want to go back to when Leslie crosses Ron's name off. She has a whole diagram of pairings of people. So she has like Ron in his own box with a question mark next to it, meaning I guess she doesn't know who she wants to put in that circle. Same thing, Donna has her own over here. And then she has Donna and Craig in a bubble.

Holly Constant (01:14:02.268)
yeah, huh?

Holly Constant (01:14:06.094)
I missed it! Good catch!

Madi (01:14:25.254)
And she has Donna and Tom, and then she has Ron and Donna, and then she has Ron and April, and then she has Madison on the bottom with a question mark next to it. And I was like, actually, that person probably like might be interested. I always figured she was like a high school or college student though. but I mean, maybe she's just young and out of college and, but she had a question mark next to her. So she didn't know who the pairing would be there with Madison. So.

Holly Constant (01:14:33.518)
Hmm.

Madi (01:14:54.652)
I thought that was interesting. It was cool to see the background there.

Holly Constant (01:14:57.686)
Yeah, that is interesting and good point. think that Madison would be a good choice because she might be wanting to start her career in this. Like maybe this is where she could have, you know, a start to the Parks world, you know? Interesting. OK, so she's making pairings of like who could go with her and who would OK, I see of those two spots that are open. OK, gotcha. OK.

Madi (01:15:17.468)
Mm-hmm.

Yeah, and it makes sense to me like because you wouldn't want to bring two people who like wouldn't compliment each other.

Holly Constant (01:15:26.766)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. But it's like, yeah. Then I think about Tom, how she had Donna and Tom together. And I'm like, Tom has his bistro, though. He's not going to go. Yeah. So that doesn't make sense. So it makes sense why she's trying to have all these. Which is totally, again, so Leslie, so pros cons-less. Yeah. What's plan X after plan A, plan B, plan C fails? Interesting. Great catch. Love that.

Madi (01:15:34.514)
Tom's busy, bro. Yeah.

Madi (01:15:43.016)
It's all brainstorming, yeah.

Madi (01:15:49.48)
Yep.

Holly Constant (01:15:55.939)
But yeah, also proving that none of these people are going. One last thing on Freddie Spaghetti, I just want to do a reminder that he is played by Brian McCann, who is famously known for Conan shows. He does a lot of sketches. He also wrote on Conan. He also wrote for the Emmy Awards, done a ton of comedy writing. And he also was in 30 Rock.

Madi (01:15:58.0)
Yeah. No. No.

Holly Constant (01:16:17.806)
So that's like if you're a fan of 30 Rock, you've seen him there. It's very similar to my friend. Well, I call him my friend, but he's not really my friend. I just interviewed him and comment on his Instagram stuff. But Brian Stack, who I talked about last week actually, who also did sketch and writing for Conan. And I'm sure they overlapped at some point. And they're both named Brian, which I thought was hilarious.

Madi (01:16:31.142)
Yeah.

Madi (01:16:37.831)
You

Holly Constant (01:16:38.978)
But yeah, and I did reach out to Brian McCann, the one who played Freddie Spaghetti, like way back in the day and never heard back from him. So I kind of just like think that's fine and we'll just move on. because he never messaged back. But I still like am a fan of of him and like the way he played Freddie Spaghetti, I think is really interesting. Even though this part was cut, like even if we were just left with what we already know of Freddie Spaghetti, I think that he did a really good job being that kid performer. You know what I mean?

Madi (01:16:47.303)
Yeah.

Madi (01:17:06.375)
Absolutely, yeah.

Holly Constant (01:17:08.59)
And very similar to the sketches that he does on Conan where it's really weird and kind of outlandish, but also sort of could be based in reality. You know what I mean? It kind of made me think of who these kids performers are. Miss Rachel is really prominent out there for being against the war and trying to save kids and all these things. And it's really lovely to see that they're a real human too that actually wants to take care of children.

Madi (01:17:16.943)
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

Madi (01:17:26.427)
Yeah.

Madi (01:17:30.191)
Yeah.

Madi (01:17:35.143)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:17:36.624)
So yeah, it's just like definitely not the same as Freddy's spaghetti. Don't get it twisted. Just saying that it's interesting to see like their actual human selves in comparison to their character for kids. So yeah. and then I also had to note that it's, Freddy's spaghetti first came up in season two.

Madi (01:17:41.135)
No, yeah, yeah.

Madi (01:17:47.375)
outside of their character.

Holly Constant (01:17:57.676)
Episode 24 like season 2 ok that was when like they are this is what I mean by they're covering all their bases and getting everybody up in here because that was literally a When mark was still there insane B Ben and Chris had just gotten there and they had their this was when they had their glasses on and they were like

Madi (01:18:06.576)
Yeah.

Madi (01:18:09.99)
Correct. Ben and Chris had just gotten there.

Holly Constant (01:18:17.191)
So outsiders, their sunglasses on with their little blazer jackets on and like, who the fuck are these people coming up in here and telling us that we have to cut our budget? that, it's just like, blows my mind to this time jump to think about season two, end of season two into now where how far Ben has come and Chris isn't even here anymore and like all these things. It's crazy.

Madi (01:18:19.546)
Yes.

Madi (01:18:36.496)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:18:40.835)
Yeah, like peak hard-ass Ben, you know, and dummy positive Chris Trigger. But yeah, and I love it too because I had this note written where like it kind of like, yes about the time warp, but the idea to see Ben didn't want Freddie's spaghetti coming. And Leslie had that line of like, look at those happy faces, like you made that. And now he's helping with the Unity concert at the Children's Ten. I mean, dang!

Madi (01:18:43.406)
Yeah. Yes.

Madi (01:18:58.438)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:19:07.075)
These full circle moments are like so insane and I don't know if that was on purpose but damn it really hit home for me.

Madi (01:19:08.016)
full circle.

Madi (01:19:12.74)
It's yeah, yeah, it's definitely nailing it right now.

Holly Constant (01:19:15.48)
Yes.

So now Andy is coming to the stage as Johnny Karate. The kids love it. This is so brilliant to have a kid stage. I think this is so smart. Yeah, because not many people think about that at concerts or community events. mean, a lot of times they do, because community events in general are for everybody, family friendly. But for like concerts, there's not really that option. So I think that this is awesome. And I love the song Johnny Karate sings. The imaginary friends are cool.

Madi (01:19:24.024)
Yes, agreed. Yeah.

Madi (01:19:36.495)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:19:45.384)
Imaginary friends take the fall for you. I love all of Andy's songs, they're so catchy.

Madi (01:19:45.892)
Yeah.

Madi (01:19:51.045)
Agreed. Yeah, they're great.

Holly Constant (01:19:53.072)
Okay, so then we have Ron Swanson with Diane. Side note, this is the first time that I'm really clocking them calling him daddy. Did you catch that?

Madi (01:20:08.163)
Yes, yes, and I did flag it, yeah.

Holly Constant (01:20:09.059)
Yeah, they called him Danny.

And I was like, my God, that's so lovely and beautiful. And I was wondering too, like, I don't think, do we ever know what happened with the dad of Zoe and Ivy? I don't think they ever mentioned it, right? Okay. Just curious.

Madi (01:20:15.333)
it is.

Madi (01:20:21.493)
No, no, and Diane never really talks about it. Yeah. And she, yeah, she never says my ex-husband's picking them up or she never says anything about him. So who knows how long he's been out of the picture.

Holly Constant (01:20:28.459)
Right. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah. All she says is that her kids are non-negotiable, which valid, and she doesn't need to tell us anything, but just curious. Yeah. I'm sure she's told Ron.

Madi (01:20:37.571)
Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. And yeah, so yes, I'm sure Ron, like, like Diane has the background on Tammy, I'm sure that Ron has the background on whatever his name is. So, but I love this moment too, where like you, you realize that his daughters know that he plays saxophone. So it's not something, it's something that he's gotten to a point where these girls, like they're, they're a whole family unit now, right? Like,

Holly Constant (01:20:52.195)
Mm-hmm. Yes.

Holly Constant (01:21:08.452)
Yes.

Madi (01:21:09.859)
Diane knows, but so do the girls. And they're proud that their dad plays music and just it's really cute moment. It's not like a secret from them. And I don't know why that hit me different watching it this time.

Holly Constant (01:21:14.179)
Yeah

It's so special.

Holly Constant (01:21:22.817)
I know it's really special to see him. Like I had that moment when Donna calls him Princess Sparkle of whatever forest when he's at the school. Cause I was like, we haven't really like talked about that was the first time that someone like outright says to Ron, you've changed for the better. And this is like good for you. And it's so nice to see someone grow like this, like you have. so now to see it just like, it's a normal part of his life now and who he is. It's really, really special.

Madi (01:21:30.763)
Yes.

Madi (01:21:41.189)
Thank you.

Madi (01:21:53.079)
Agreed. Yeah, absolutely.

Holly Constant (01:21:54.093)
Love. Let's see. OK. yeah. I also love I just had this moment, where kind of to your point where like they all know, but nobody really else knows except for the people that kind of caught him like April and whatever. But I love that as well, just kind of building off of what you said that they're the only ones that know really except for. And then I just love that episode, too. It just brought me back to

Madi (01:22:11.109)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:22:23.402)
when Andy found out, because Andy's one of the ones that knows, and how Bonnie Bailey Reid, the lady who was like, he is sex on a stick, just, it brought me back to that moment, made me laugh. So good. And that character name, another friendly reminder, is Tony Tone, Strunk Fuster. So dumb. I love it.

Madi (01:22:34.597)
So, yeah.

Madi (01:22:42.595)
my gosh, so, so dumb. I love it now because now that you're mentioning it, everybody's kind of found out on accident.

Holly Constant (01:22:50.749)
Mm-hmm. Yeah, like he didn't... Right, right. Yeah. 100%. Okay, so Diane, AKA Lucy Lawless, Princess Xena Warrior, also has a trailer and she talks about her character, so let's listen to her.

Madi (01:22:51.905)
His family is the only one that knows on purpose.

Take care.

Madi (01:23:03.801)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:24:53.236)
okay, I think that was it for her. And just a friendly reminder that she is New Zealand. She's from New Zealand. Mm-hmm. She's so cool. my gosh. Yeah, and I love that. I mean, I love hearing both, and I'll play Megan Mullally's trailer a little bit later, too, but I love hearing everybody pretty much behind the scenes say that they think Tammy is, like, disgusting. It's really interesting.

Madi (01:24:58.519)
Such a beautiful accent. I love it. Yeah.

Madi (01:25:19.713)
Yeah. my gosh. Yeah. Omega Mulally is so great.

Holly Constant (01:25:25.598)
Mm-hmm. Okay, I'm gonna play Nick Offerman's trailer now. So fun.

Holly Constant (01:26:27.375)
Hmm.

Madi (01:27:33.802)
so funny.

Madi (01:28:39.35)
My gosh.

Holly Constant (01:28:40.879)
Okay, that was all for him. my God, I love that. I don't know, I just love how similar most of these characters are to the actual actor. I mean, I know that we're in season six, so it's all blending together and whatever, but I do feel like Nick Offerman is so similar to Ron Swanson in that way, except for Nick Offerman laughs a lot more, you know what I mean? But all those little metaphors and things where he was like, and how he kind of speaks in poetry and he was held in Sam Elliott's...

Madi (01:28:48.886)
Yeah.

Madi (01:29:00.021)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:29:09.183)
tender cowboy embrace and all that kind of stuff is so funny to me and I love it.

Madi (01:29:11.06)
Yeah.

Madi (01:29:14.652)
Agreed. So funny. And I love hearing him talk about Megan. It's awesome.

Holly Constant (01:29:19.681)
I know. Yeah, so friendly reminder if you didn't know already, even though we've talked about it ad nauseam, feel Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman are married and have been married for quite some time before the show ever happened. So it's really fun to see them be insane to each other.

Madi (01:29:30.367)
Yeah.

Madi (01:29:35.648)
Yes, gross, but insane.

Holly Constant (01:29:37.303)
Yes. Okay, so Ron says he already has had enough fun for the day. He doesn't want to play saxophone because he spent the day recalibrating sights on the toy guns at the shooting range thing, which I think is a funny detail. Right. Then he starts sniffing and we all know that smell slash that face and Tammy too is here. And I love that Diane knows it too. Like, where is she?

Madi (01:29:47.828)
Yeah, I've had my fun for the day. Yeah.

Madi (01:29:57.395)
Yep.

Madi (01:30:01.094)
Yes, yeah. Show someone she knows them.

Holly Constant (01:30:04.505)
my God, yes. And again, I love seeing all of Megan Mullally's like behind the scenes moments talking about Tammy too. Like she's fully aware that Tammy too is like not a good person. Like even Megan Mullally doesn't like this person, which I think is so funny. so I'm just going to play her trailer too. But again, this is just like all the guest stars coming back to play. It's crazy. Like just when you think that you've seen everybody, then someone else comes up and you're like, my God. it's amazing. Okay. Let's listen to Megan's.

Madi (01:30:24.01)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:31:16.908)
you

Madi (01:31:48.661)
Yeah, they did.

Madi (01:32:15.707)
my gosh.

Holly Constant (01:32:42.888)
Love. my gosh. So funny. And side note, just a quick thing about Megan Mullally. A, she had a variety show with her entertainment partner. can't remember her name. And Nick Offerman opened for them. So fun. And he goes on tour too. And they kind of do a lot of live stuff together. But also, if you watch Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which I highly recommend on Disney +, she is in that. And she plays this like beast character.

And I think it's so funny when you think about her being Megan and her calling Megan or met calling Tammy to a beast I was like, my god. She's reincarnated as like one of the devil demon beasts It's so funny and she's so good in that show in Percy Jackson. So good

Madi (01:33:18.109)
Yeah.

Madi (01:33:23.926)
my gosh, yeah.

Madi (01:33:28.488)
Yeah, that's great.

Holly Constant (01:33:30.136)
Love, yes, I love that moment of like, we found it, we found that disgusting make out moment. They really did. Love that Nick Offerman or Ron says to hide the children. And I love this line too, trolling for some daddy. I mean dad-dy.

Madi (01:33:34.864)
Yes.

Madi (01:33:49.81)
Ugh.

Holly Constant (01:33:50.66)
So funny, my god.

Madi (01:33:53.555)
Yeah, she's such a problem.

Holly Constant (01:33:56.067)
And I really, they do such a good job of them to have such great chemistry regardless of if they're married or not, but I know that helps. But this whole thing of even they, and they set it up before in her past seasons, but like such a job of Nick having this like physiological thing, like Ron like can't stop his body from reacting in some way to her. It's like, even though he knows he, his brain.

Madi (01:34:04.796)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:34:21.344)
is like not wanting it, his body does. And it's just like so good to watch him try to like restrain himself. It's so funny.

Madi (01:34:24.318)
Yeah.

Yeah, he does such a great job. It's so funny.

Holly Constant (01:34:30.384)
Mm-hmm. Yes, so good. So then after the show, Andy's talking to the kids saying karate on bad guys only, which I love that. So good. And then, very important. And then Burleigh comes up. So fun. I love that Burleigh comes back. Again, everybody coming back. Insane. He comes up with this nephew who is a huge fan of Andy's slash Johnny karate. Super cute.

Madi (01:34:40.646)
Yes, that's important.

Madi (01:34:46.014)
Yeah

Yes.

Holly Constant (01:34:55.758)
And Burley is really nice saying he's sorry that things ended so weird with Mouse Rat. And we haven't really heard this out loud, I think, since they ended. Like, because the last time, from my memory, that we saw Mouse Rat was when Andy kind of tricked the Mouse Rat people into playing at a kid's birthday party, which is how Johnny Karate started, because everybody was like, I'm not playing at a kid's birthday party. We're rock stars, whatever. Like, you can't play sex hair at a kid's party. That's the one where he said Dave Grohl might be there. He's like, you can't, you know.

Madi (01:34:59.708)
Hmm.

Madi (01:35:19.804)
Yep.

Holly Constant (01:35:25.584)
plan for him he might be there and then the drummer River said he was going back to rabbinical school yeah so that's kind of like where we ended what's that

Madi (01:35:31.486)
Where we left off.

No, I was just agreeing.

Holly Constant (01:35:38.518)
okay. And of course, Andy has his own ideas about how Mouse Rat was supposed to end and Burley is awkward and is like, okay, bye. Because Andy has this whole story of how he was going to go solo and whatever.

Madi (01:35:50.927)
Yeah, he should be used to that though with being in a band with him for so long.

Holly Constant (01:35:55.286)
Right. that's why, and Burleigh's so sweet, feel. Burleigh is very accepting, I think, of who Andy is.

Madi (01:36:01.627)
Yes. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:36:03.261)
and then April comes up and says it was a great performance, which is so nice. She's supportive and says one kid peed his pants because he didn't want to leave the show. I gave a kid pee pants. but he's sad. he kind of feels down because he's bummed that he misses being with a band. And I'd love this line. They never tell you when you go solo that it's just going to be you up there. Great line.

Madi (01:36:12.871)
Pea pants? So good.

Madi (01:36:18.333)
Yeah.

Madi (01:36:28.017)
Yeah, it is... Yeah. You see why I feel like this is the fantasy football thing?

Holly Constant (01:36:30.711)
Yeah, and I mean like

Right, 100%. Yes, all coming back.

Madi (01:36:38.597)
Like the IQ isn't going up.

Holly Constant (01:36:40.716)
Right. Yeah. I mean, that like having a band comes with its own drama, but like and having and being solo comes with its own drama, but it is nice to all be in it together. So and he misses that. So I think that's kind of cute and sets us up for something later. Exciting. OK. my gosh. Letters to Cleo is here. my God.

Madi (01:36:42.833)
Such a sweetheart.

It does, yeah.

Madi (01:36:52.423)
Yeah.

Madi (01:36:55.868)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:37:00.474)
This is it, this is the big one we love. I Genuine was big too, but this is also one where we have talked about this band before on the show in addition to Genuine. No one knows Letters to Cleo like personally, but Ben is such a huge fan and Ben is wearing his Letters to Cleo shirt or his like, you know, his any day relaxing shirt, depression Letters to Cleo shirt, making his claymation moment such a fun little moment. I'm gonna play there.

Madi (01:37:08.294)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:37:29.5)
Adam, I was just gonna say, Adam does such a great job here because when we heard his trailer in the first part of this episode, it sounds like, you know, he knows who they are, but like really Mike Schur is the one that's a fan. And so his fan girl moment on the side of the stage and him singing along nailed it. I would have totally guessed that Adam Scott was a Letters of Camille fan.

Holly Constant (01:37:30.408)
go ahead.

Holly Constant (01:37:42.724)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:37:54.084)
Yeah, and you know what? I bet he was after this, you know? And it's like the energy when you're on stage and that adrenaline, like seeing someone perform is also really fun. But yeah, you're right. He definitely has that whole fangirly moment, which is so precious and definitely like tricks us, you know? OK, let's listen to the Letters to Cleo trailer.

Madi (01:37:57.595)
yeah, yeah.

Madi (01:38:08.604)
Yeah.

Madi (01:38:12.303)
yeah.

Holly Constant (01:39:57.458)
Okay, I think that was, yeah, that was it for that one. my God, I love her so much. Her and Kay Hanley and Haley Williams are like my top two vocalist, like love, obsessed.

Madi (01:40:00.902)
So cute. Yeah, a sweetheart.

Madi (01:40:10.033)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:40:10.563)
So I did a whole like breakdown on this way like a long time ago when we first saw the Letters to Cleo shirt, but just a reminder, and we heard it last week too, like you just said, but Mike Schur was responsible for featuring the band after seeing singer Kay Hanley at a charity event. I think he was fans before this, but he saw her and like asked her then. And according to an AV club article, that's where they...

like talked about her coming on the show. Also a show connection, which I don't know if I talked about this last time, but Mark Rivers, who writes the music for Mouse Rat, who also plays Rivers, the drummer in the band, who left for rabbinical school, previously played drums for Letters to Cleo. I did not know that. Yeah.

Madi (01:40:45.882)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:40:52.461)
I didn't know that either. That's a great tidbit.

Holly Constant (01:40:55.203)
Yeah. And the band's appearance, like she said, like Kay Hanley said, led to a resurgence in popularity for the band and the shirt they wore, which trended on Twitter. This was back when Twitter obviously was really cool and not a hellscape. The article that I saw said that the band was like, what is happening? They had no idea, which is weird because I don't understand how they did that. I guess.

I was just wondering, how did they get that name cleared to make merch? You know what I mean? Not merch, because now it's being sold. So I'm sure they had to go through whatever licensing for that. But I think before, they were just putting the name on the shirt and was like, let's just do it. You know what mean? Because it was just a costume, technically. But I'll post the article where Mike Schur is talking about all the people that he got to play. But for Letters to Cleo, he said,

Madi (01:41:21.573)
Mm. Yeah.

Madi (01:41:33.561)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:41:43.013)
The funny thing is that the guy who's written all of the songs for Parks and Rec since the beginning, his name is Mark Rivers, and he used to play with Letters to Cleo, but he's also the drummer in Andy's band, Mouse Rat. So when Letters to Cleo got ready to play, we were like, this is gonna be weird because eagle-eyed viewers will recognize you as the drummer for Mouse Rat, and it will be very confusing that you're now playing with Letters to Cleo. So we made him wear a baseball cap and he had sunglasses on to kind of disguise him.

Madi (01:42:10.194)
that's awesome.

Holly Constant (01:42:10.971)
which I don't think people would have cared or recognized. They were just trying to cover their bases, I guess.

Madi (01:42:17.251)
Yeah, yeah, I mean, for those of us that might be looking at it more analytically, maybe we would have caught it. I mean, if I'm just watching it for funsies.

Holly Constant (01:42:26.417)
Yeah, because you don't really see him anyway. I feel like the camera doesn't really show him. They mostly show Kay Hanley winking at Ben. yeah. Also, I don't know. Did you watch the movie 10 Things I Hate About You? So that's Letters to Cleo. Did you know that? They played Letters to Cleo played like four songs live on 10 Things I Hate About You.

Madi (01:42:29.253)
Yeah.

Madi (01:42:41.081)
course.

Holly Constant (01:42:48.989)
You know what mean? Like at the end of the movie when they're on top of the roof, that's them. They featured all of their songs on 10, not all, but a lot of their songs on 10 Things I Hate About You. When she's in the club, there's this other gal at the prom one, but at the prom scene. like when they're at the club or whatever, they play their songs. So that's kind of how I...

Madi (01:42:59.288)
Yeah.

Madi (01:43:07.737)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:43:12.985)
was introduced to them, I feel, because that was like peak Letter Ciclio moments. And so I listen to that soundtrack all of the time. I love all of their songs. They're so good. And they do covers of a lot of John Denver songs, which is really interesting. You know, Cruel to Be Kind. You gotta be cruel to be kind. That's not their original song. I think that's John Denver. And so they covered that. And I did not know that, that it was a cover. But amazing.

Madi (01:43:26.615)
Yeah, very interesting.

Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:43:40.363)
And I love Kay Henley's outfit too. That's such a cute little dress. Love it.

Madi (01:43:43.777)
Yes. Yeah, it fits the music very well, the way she's dressed. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:43:49.252)
It's so cute. And yeah, this was their main song here and now is the song that it was called both of their reactions in this little moment of Ben's fangirling moment when she's like basically rapping. Not really, but like when she's like speeding through all of her lyrics and Ben's singing along with all of the lyrics, knowing every word and like her winking at him. And then she kind of has this moment of like, my God, I can't believe I just winked at you. How fun and cute and flirty. You know what I mean?

Madi (01:44:05.582)
Yes.

Madi (01:44:14.911)
Yeah, I know, and Adam's

Holly Constant (01:44:19.161)
Yes, his jaw drop is so good. Like, looks around? Like, did anyone else see that? my god. It's really good.

Madi (01:44:21.483)
Yeah, it's so cute.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:44:30.513)
Okay, so Leslie is asking about Andy and April moving with them. She gets them deep dish pizza and Andy's like, okay, I'll do it. And it's cute that Andy is always so on board with whatever Leslie needs.

Madi (01:44:42.109)
yeah. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:44:43.397)
But again, keeping in character, April is always helping him back to reality. Like, this is our home. No, we cannot move. It's cute that she says that in her own way. Like, thank you, and I love you. But no, thank you, and I hate you. But also, I love you. That was really nice, because I don't think that April would have ended on I love you, like, even a couple seasons ago. You know what I mean?

Madi (01:44:57.174)
Yeah.

Madi (01:45:04.48)
No, agreed. Yeah, it's great. It's a great little moment that like, like you're saying, like, Andy is always a ride or die for Leslie and April is too, but like, you know, she's just thinking through it a little bit more clearly.

Holly Constant (01:45:13.647)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:45:19.205)
Definitely. And I love this moment too that Andy has of like, thanks, babe. You're so good at reminding me where pizza is.

Madi (01:45:25.048)
Yes, I love that line too. It's so good. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:45:29.041)
We have pizza here too. So funny. Okay, so next up, this is one of the most exciting parts for me because I found so much research on it, but this is the Red Sweatshirt People, okay? They are played by a band called Yolatango, which is an indie rock band formed in Jersey in 1984. They were also popular in the 90s too. Again, keeping in that theme of like how Mike Scherr and the writers are like really 90s vibes. But I wasn't as familiar with them, so I looked them up and they did a...

Madi (01:45:40.248)
Hmm.

Madi (01:45:52.888)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:45:56.827)
Pretty famous cover of Friday I'm in Love. It's Friday I'm in Love. And then they had some other cool songs going on. I feel like they were one of those indie ones as well that were like big and small circles but didn't quite get to like platinum or whatever you want to call it. But they were popular. Same thing with Letters to Cleo. I feel like they were really popular for like the indie vibes. I mean obviously I'm a huge fan but I don't know if they were like my god pop vibes you know. Which.

Madi (01:46:00.387)
Hmm

Madi (01:46:11.929)
Mm, yeah.

Madi (01:46:25.217)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:46:25.841)
is insane because they're so good. anyway, I will say, can I just be so real and say and confess that I did not understand the band name Bobby Night Ranger? Did you? OK. I was like, why are they called this? Like, I can understand Bobby Night sort of, but what's going on? So just to explain to everyone, which I know if you're screaming at me because you guys understood it, I'm sorry, but let me just get this out. It's a pun of Bobby Night.

Madi (01:46:37.452)
I didn't either, no.

Holly Constant (01:46:54.115)
the Indiana coach that was literally in Ron's office back in like literally season one, Bobby Knight, Bobby Knight. And they had to take it down because of copyright, like licensing stuff. And then Night Ranger is the eighties band that has the song Sister Christian. So Bobby Knight and Night Ranger form Bobby Night Ranger. And so I...

Madi (01:47:04.321)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:47:12.172)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:47:17.239)
Yeah, okay.

Holly Constant (01:47:19.737)
I think I was also confused because they kept saying Sister Christian and I was like, what is Sister Christian? Is that the band too? And I do this with a lot of 80s bands where like, I know the song, but I can't put the name to it or like the band to it. And to be honest, I like, knew, I wasn't like, I know all the lyrics of Sister Christian by any means. That's the name of the song, just to be 100 % clear. But I knew like the melody. And so the cover band, Bobby Knight Rangers,

Madi (01:47:29.931)
Hmm.

Madi (01:47:40.535)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:47:49.682)
plays the song Sister Christian over and over again. And I also found this Mike Schur article in AV Club that says there was a total throwaway joke in the episode New Slogan where Andy discovers Duke Silver and tells Ron, you're gonna play the Unity concert I have you on right after Bobby Night Ranger. It's a Night Ranger cover band that wears red sweaters. One of our writers, Donnett Carey, is very good friends with the band Yola Tango.

who are one of my favorite bands and he emailed them and said, hey, do you guys want to play Bobby Night Ranger? And they were like, sure. So YOLO Tango makes an appearance as Bobby Night Ranger playing Sister Christian.

Three of them showed up, got dressed up in red sweaters, khakis, and white wigs, and they played Sister Christian in front of a thousand people, introducing themselves as Bobby Night Ranger. It was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen and completely delightful. It was just really cool. They were so game and so happy to be there, and it was so cool of them because they're basically in disguise. YOLO Tango fans will recognize them definitely, but most people won't. They just did it because they like comedy and wanted to be a part of the show. It was super cool, and I'm forever in their debt.

Madi (01:48:38.622)
So funny.

Madi (01:48:49.119)
Yeah.

Madi (01:48:58.592)
That's awesome. That's so cool. I do remember that throwaway line.

Holly Constant (01:48:59.537)
It's so funny.

Yeah, that's kind of like similar to we had wondered if Grizzle was just randomly mentioned and then they knew they were going to do something. So this one is like they did not really know they just kind of it was a throwaway line and then they brought them in. And so I thought that was so fun. And then I did OK, so just as a reminder, if you're not familiar, I did record a little piece of Sister Christian, the song, so you got.

Madi (01:49:09.163)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:49:20.342)
Yeah, agreed.

Holly Constant (01:49:31.117)
sung by Night Ranger, the actual band. So you guys could hear because they really do sound so like Yola Tango or the Bobby Night Ranger cover band on Parks and Rec really does sound similar. So I'm just going to play it for you.

Holly Constant (01:50:04.187)
So much that

Madi (01:50:05.705)
Yeah, it does. Yeah, it was really close. Yeah, I mean, I know the song and so like I honestly thought it was recording until I think until this moment when you said that it was an actual band that was covering it.

Holly Constant (01:50:08.079)
Yeah!

Holly Constant (01:50:14.545)
Mmm.

Holly Constant (01:50:21.873)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Crazy, right? It's so fun. I loved learning that. That was one of the biggest things where I was like, now I understand. Bobby Night Ranger.

Madi (01:50:25.802)
Yeah.

Madi (01:50:31.111)
Yeah, that's... yeah, and that's quite a nugget. That's all really cool.

Holly Constant (01:50:34.073)
Yes, my gosh, thank you so much. Great. Yeah, that was really fun too. Also, I don't really understand the white wigs. I don't know how that came up because so I now post the, I don't know who's interested, but I'll post the video of this music video, Sister Christian, because it's like really weird and funny total 80s vibes like.

It's weird and this girl is in like graduating and that's kind of what the song is about. Like you're trying to go these places, you're motoring kind of thing. And then they end the song with them driving off, like a bunch of her girlfriends are like driving off in their graduation caps and gowns and whatever the hell. but I don't, none of them are wearing white wigs. I mean, maybe I missed it. Maybe they had a moment, somebody who is a Night Ranger fan, tell me. Maybe they had a moment of having white hair.

Madi (01:51:24.819)
I wonder if it's more like a comment on like it's an old band, like a band of old people and they only had, they only know how to play one song. And so that's why they're playing it. Like, I wonder if that's what it was. Cause that's how I've always viewed it is like, these are a bunch of people who are retired and they play the same song over and over again.

Holly Constant (01:51:30.86)
maybe.

Yes.

Holly Constant (01:51:39.492)
Yeah!

Holly Constant (01:51:43.386)
Yeah.

That's so funny. I bet you that's exactly what it is. And the idea that they probably had like a 20 minute set and just played that song over and over again. And that comment of like, it was nice to hear that song played 20 times. Like I didn't know that was possible. Oh my God. Yeah. So good job, YOLO Tango, the band for doing that because that was really fun.

Madi (01:51:57.822)
You

Madi (01:52:02.248)
that many times.

Yeah, my gosh, so good.

Madi (01:52:11.9)
Mm-hmm. Very awesome.

Holly Constant (01:52:14.136)
And then they throw the chair. It's just like hilarious. They're trying to be like really rock star vibes. So funny.

Madi (01:52:16.958)
Yeah. So I love that. Yeah. Agreed.

Holly Constant (01:52:22.306)
Okay, so now we're moving on to Andy giving a speech saying that this next band is reuniting for one night only. And then again, I just had a comment like, look at this crowd. They did the whole pan over of the crowd. Like I just love every time they show it. It's so beautiful. And then I laughed out loud when Andy starts singing their songs and Jeff Tweedy, AKA the Wilco guy, Land Ho is like, Hey buddy, why don't you let us sing this? Right. Which I think is so cute. Like treat like.

Madi (01:52:32.425)
Hmm.

Madi (01:52:40.734)
Yeah.

Madi (01:52:46.632)
Yeah, yeah, right, right.

Holly Constant (01:52:51.618)
treating Andy like a little toddler, like, it's okay, buddy, I'll do it.

Madi (01:52:55.112)
Yeah. So good.

Holly Constant (01:52:57.372)
And then Land Ho comes out. And you guys already remember my breakdown on that. But just a reminder that the writers called Jeff Tweedy because they had originally written in the script a Jeff Tweedy type, quote unquote. And then they said, well, why don't we just call him? And he was like, I don't know. But then his wonderful wife, Sue, said, you have to do this because it's so fun. And she was sick at the time and he didn't want to leave her. But she was like, no, you have to do it. I'm a huge fan of this. it. And so we thank Sue for this edition.

Madi (01:53:12.564)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:53:21.044)
Bye.

Madi (01:53:26.054)
Absolutely we do. Yeah. So cool.

Holly Constant (01:53:27.216)
And Jeff Tweedy named this band, if anyone remembers that. He came up with Lando and added the exclamation point, which is amazing. And then another fun fact too that the song Jeff Tweedy of Wilco slash Lando performs as Scott Tanner is a real Wilco song now. It's called Pickle Ginger. while the show, yeah, now. So they wrote it for the episode and then they released it as Wilco.

Madi (01:53:35.826)
Yeah, love it.

Madi (01:53:54.13)
Wow, cool.

Holly Constant (01:53:56.656)
Isn't that wild? So funny. It's on their 2015 album, Star Wars, is what it's called. But the song that they played is called Pickle Ginger. And it was not a real song before this show, but they wrote it for this song and then released it. Or wrote it for this episode and then released it. So funny. And cool, yeah, what a funny little tidbit if you like Pickle Ginger, but you don't like Parks and Rec or didn't know about Parks and Rec. What an interesting little trivia moment.

Madi (01:53:58.174)
That's awesome.

Madi (01:54:13.565)
of God.

Madi (01:54:21.426)
Yeah.

real.

Holly Constant (01:54:25.764)
okay. So, but like we said, this is a Land Ho song first. Okay. And that's what's most important. Okay. So then we get a bit of a time warp because it's nighttime now. The sun has gone down. The concert has lasted all day. so the shoot really did take all day looking like a true festival. And then Mouse Rat is coming back now. I'm so freaking emotional.

Madi (01:54:31.804)
Yes. Okay.

Madi (01:54:39.166)
Okay.

Madi (01:54:50.364)
I know, my gosh, this is so...

You couldn't have this be if this ended up being the series finale. You could not have had this be the series finale without Mouse Rat. Like they've been there since the first season. And so it's just such a beautiful moment. And it's so beautiful that we're getting another moment where April just steps up and is like full on supporting Andy. And it's just so beautiful. And he's so happy. He's so excited. And what an experience. Not only is he going to be up there with his band.

Holly Constant (01:55:05.37)
Yes.

Madi (01:55:25.306)
and not feel alone, but there's gonna be all these other people up there performing with him too. And so he just gets this whole immersive experience. It's beautiful.

Holly Constant (01:55:30.02)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (01:55:34.21)
Yeah. And to close it down after.

Land ho is like one of his fave bands like my gosh how beautiful and when the original band members come back to Because I feel like a lot of times when the bands come back You don't have the original lineup, you know And so the fact that Alan Yang is there Burley is there Rivers is there is really really special that the gang is all back together and They're closing it down and April's so excited to see him be happy It's really really cute and to have her with it with a clipboard

Madi (01:55:42.64)
Yeah.

Madi (01:55:47.858)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (01:55:52.668)
Yeah.

Madi (01:56:05.623)
and yeah

Holly Constant (01:56:06.767)
She was doing a lot of planning and stuff too.

Madi (01:56:10.054)
Yeah, she's been, she's, she's kicked butt here too. The whole team.

Holly Constant (01:56:14.073)
Yeah, they're all very on the ball with their organization, which is amazing. But seriously, mean, so before Mouse Rat starts playing legitimately, I'm just like looking at all the band members. So all the band members come back, it's genuine, everybody that's played before comes back to sing Lil Sebastian's song, which is another reason why it's really emotional, because you're like, my God, this whole band is here, rallying together for this beautiful new town and Lil Sebastian.

Madi (01:56:19.004)
Yeah.

Madi (01:56:32.721)
Yeah.

Madi (01:56:41.106)
Yeah, a little spashing. It does, yeah.

Holly Constant (01:56:42.991)
Sometimes it does roll off the tongue to say little Sebastian, but that is not, I have to correct myself. I caught myself, okay? But to think about also the logistics of setting up the stage, plugging in all those mics, the amps, the speakers, the sound systems, the boards that are probably in the back, how to sync that all to the cameras. Like it was insane to me, like so much work that went into this show because a lot of times like I...

Madi (01:56:49.029)
You did.

Holly Constant (01:57:09.489)
I love music in shows, but I understand to a certain degree why people don't do it all the time because it is a lot of setup. like, not really. Like, I mean, not really is the wrong way to say it, but like it's worth it is what I mean to say. Like it's so, so worth it. And whenever you get to a festival too, like a real festival, like I just encourage everyone to really think about.

Madi (01:57:15.142)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:57:32.881)
the work that goes into it, the tents that were set up, the hours that they spent. I mean, a lot of times these real festivals are getting there at like 4 a.m. in the morning, if not earlier, to set up and they don't leave until like 11 p.m. at night, if not later, you know what I mean? And I just feel like they all deserve that recognition, all the vendors, even if you're not a musician, like the vendors that come, the food trucks that come, like everyone was really working together and coming together for the common good. And I just, I love that. I think it's so important to recognize that.

Madi (01:57:35.377)
Yeah.

Madi (01:58:00.455)
Yeah.

Absolutely.

Holly Constant (01:58:05.073)
And then they passed out candles in the audience, I guess, because now everybody has candles for Lil Sebastian's song. It's so sweet. And this hologram. my God, of Lil Sebastian, he comes back.

Madi (01:58:17.778)
Yeah, yeah, it's what a cherry on top.

Holly Constant (01:58:22.475)
What a cherry on top. my God. Like seriously, we're singing about Lil Sebastian and Lil Sebastian is here. Like way to tug at the heartstrings, man. Well done. And keep in mind that the cast slash audience would not have seen that hologram. That was definitely, I mean, from my experience, that is always added in post-production. So like, I think it's really interesting to see everybody's faces and just imagine that they're not actually seeing it. That's acting. You know what I mean?

Madi (01:58:32.572)
Yeah, for real.

Madi (01:58:40.486)
Yeah, added later.

Madi (01:58:50.629)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:58:52.313)
Also, I love Ben's look of like, my God, are you serious?

Madi (01:58:57.136)
I wrote that down, I was like, consistency of Ben still not being on board with little Sebastian, like, is so good.

Holly Constant (01:59:05.969)
Oh my God, seriously though, that was hilarious. Especially like right next to Leslie of like her going crazy over it. Yes. Yes, that consistency, just like you said. Yeah, the 5,000 candles and the wind is happening. That line is happening right as the hologram comes up. It's so beautiful. And then we get Duke Silver. Oh my God, just when you thought that we had enough, they bring out Duke Silver. What a dream. What a dream. And then Leslie and Ben's face.

Madi (01:59:13.414)
while she's freaking out, yeah. So good.

Madi (01:59:30.35)
You did it. Yeah.

Holly Constant (01:59:35.941)
being like

Madi (01:59:36.43)
Yeah, that's so good.

Holly Constant (01:59:39.226)
the fact that Leslie and Ben don't know is still one of the best things I think the show has done. Like keeping that secret. my God. Amazing. Such a dream. Nick Offerman is so good. And yes, as a reminder, if you're new here, he is a saxophone player. He does play. That is him playing. Like amazing. I don't know who wrote that. If he.

Madi (01:59:45.231)
Yeah!

Mm-hmm. Agreed. Yeah, this is beautiful.

Madi (01:59:57.114)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (02:00:02.8)
like improvised that and then they wrote it in or if someone like wrote sheet music, I don't know that part of it, but whoever did that composition was fantastic. That was so good. That sax solo is choice. So good. And then again, like I said, we've got Kay Hanley, Jenny Wine, December is Lando and the Sister Christian Band, Bobby Night Ranger all singing along, Yolotango. Which I thought that was funny too that the

Madi (02:00:04.464)
Mm.

Madi (02:00:12.879)
Yeah.

Madi (02:00:17.251)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:00:33.029)
that band is the only one, Yolotango is the only one that's playing a different character than their actual self. I thought that was kind of okay, I know what I was gonna say. So the line that he has when they're finishing up this song, maybe someday we'll saddle up again, you know I'll always miss my horsiest friend. I do not remember that line. I think that was added. Because I think they cut it.

Madi (02:00:38.597)
Yes.

Madi (02:00:54.191)
Mm-hmm. No, I think this ending, yeah.

Holly Constant (02:01:00.609)
at spread your wings and fly, spread your wings and fly that, but they cut out the little part that I just said. And I love that they added it in, it's so fun. my God, beautiful. And then we get this drone shot similarly to Harvest Festival where you're just seeing the whole picture of what we've accomplished and done here. Look at that crowd, it's so beautiful. It's so spectacular and massive and awesome. Like, ugh.

Madi (02:01:09.754)
Yeah.

That's great. Agreed.

Madi (02:01:28.581)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:01:29.689)
I just love it.

Madi (02:01:31.096)
It feels like a huge festival. And then we find out that, like, we find out that it's not the only day that this is happening.

Holly Constant (02:01:32.719)
Mm-hmm, because it is.

Holly Constant (02:01:39.031)
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Madi (02:01:41.36)
So it's like the amount of effort, cause you were just talking about the teardown and the setup and all that stuff. It's like, yeah, huge.

Holly Constant (02:01:45.721)
Yeah. Crazy.

And then to think that each musician has their own guitar, own instruments, and you have to plug in soundtrack, all that stuff, insane. So Ben and Leslie are now talking to Donna about moving to Chicago. And Ben says that Donna would thrive with the nightlife, the big city. She says she owes Derek a brunch, which I'm sure you knew who Derek Rose was, but I did not know that. He plays for the Chicago Bulls. Or played, I don't think he does now, yeah.

Madi (02:01:53.85)
Yep.

Madi (02:01:58.639)
Yeah.

Madi (02:02:13.634)
Yeah. Yeah. I don't think anymore, but yeah.

Holly Constant (02:02:19.601)
I don't remember this part. I feel like they cut the Donna part. Do you remember this?

Madi (02:02:25.348)
I do remember her talking to Donna. I don't remember the comment about brunch. And I don't remember Seattle. The Seattle comment. What did?

Holly Constant (02:02:29.902)
Yeah!

Holly Constant (02:02:33.667)
Yeah. Yeah, I feel like there's a lot that was cut. because, so she says that the city she'd, because Leslie's like, well, I know that you would want to move to Seattle. That would be your city to move to. And she's like, no, Istanbul, like where she has, like we thought it would be Seattle where she has her condo, but she like, she would move to Istanbul. which all of this is in line on brand for Donna, like being mysterious.

Madi (02:02:38.766)
Yeah, what does she say?

Madi (02:02:43.278)
Istanbul.

Madi (02:02:53.249)
Yeah, I think.

Madi (02:02:58.467)
Yeah, yeah. I think the part that was in the episode is she says like things are heating up with Joe and I remember that, but no more details than that.

Holly Constant (02:03:04.535)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Right. Which I like that they added all of this stuff. That was very interesting, but they definitely added that in. my god. And then we get to the part where they do such a good job of doing this when Leslie's making a big decision, where Jerry actually thinks this is a good idea.

He'll go, Gail and him will have their golden years in Chicago. They've always wanted to travel and go different places. That's great writing because we know that anytime Jerry is on board with something, Leslie knows it's a bad idea. Similarly to when she was gonna launch her campaign again after the recall, Jerry was like, great idea. And then everybody's like, fuck. Guess it's not that great of an idea.

Madi (02:03:31.128)
Yeah.

Madi (02:03:34.989)
Yes.

Holly Constant (02:03:47.506)
And I love that Ben still holds true here where he says my boy lair bones or lair jar, but what does he say? He says something like Regardless, he calls him a nickname and lair bones I feel But Ben still loves Larry and I do love that but even Leslie again cannot get on board with this side of Ben liking Larry

Madi (02:03:56.459)
Yeah, layer bones. Yeah, very interesting.

Madi (02:04:08.087)
Yeah, no, it's hard for her.

Holly Constant (02:04:11.087)
I do have a Jim O'Hare trailer. Let's go ahead and listen to that, because his is really cute.

Madi (02:06:56.942)
Aww, he's got a good voice!

Holly Constant (02:06:58.897)
No, does. Jim O'Hare is so sweet and precious. Oh my gosh, love. And yeah, he's all about family, that's for sure.

Madi (02:07:01.866)
Yeah, he is.

Yeah, for real. Good callback to remembering he still had all the stroller and baby clothes and all that.

Holly Constant (02:07:12.01)
Mm-hmm, and the love he has for little Sebastian.

Madi (02:07:15.459)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:07:16.889)
Okay, so now we're at Tom's Bistro. He's having this little staff meeting. I love this. I love this a lot. Like everyone's dressed very nicely. Everyone's professional. Like let's do this. But then Dr. Saperstein is here, our genemies. And yeah, this makes sense. Like why Mona Lisa would think to bring him because he is a VIP to her and he is a baller technically. Like the VISP, I know. Money please.

Madi (02:07:35.414)
Yeah.

I I love that we get another money, please. So good.

Holly Constant (02:07:43.548)
I know, it's so good. I love that when she says that. And then Dr. Saperstein thinks he's getting one over on Tom by saying sarcastically, like, you're so packed. Like, do I need a reservation? And basically laughing in his face. And I love that Tom almost gives in and is about to stand up for himself and be like, you know what? Fine, OK. But then all the local legends come in. Joan and Pert are first. She wants a tumbler of gin and crushed aspirin around the rim. The Joan.

Madi (02:08:11.755)
Yikes.

Holly Constant (02:08:15.041)
And then Kay, yeah, yikes. And then Kay Hanley and everyone else comes in. I love this face-off moment that lasts a little too long between Tom and Dr. Saperstein, just like very close together.

Madi (02:08:15.265)
Just yikes.

Holly Constant (02:08:28.977)
Side note, yeah, everyone says that Henry, and you heard that in the trailers, that everyone like thinks and says that Henry Winkler is the nicest dude in all the land and it's just hilarious to see him be a mean character or like, you know, mind fuck character kind of vibe. you know, Tom was saying that too. was like really weird to work with him or Aziz was saying that when the cameras are rolling, he's like sleazy and weird. And then back, like when the cameras are off, he's like so sweet.

And then Tom, this little moment of Tom doing great, everyone laughing at his jokes, even genuine, like I'm really happy for Tom.

Madi (02:09:01.299)
Me too. And of course his laugh is so over the top. Like hitting the table and everything.

Holly Constant (02:09:05.037)
so over the top. But this is what he's always dreamed of. This was his, like, what he thought that snake juice would be. You know?

Madi (02:09:14.131)
Yeah, that's real. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:09:16.497)
And then side note, so when Tom talks about his disappointment that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth didn't show up, you know, like he hoped that the night would have been magical enough to get them back together. They actually did get back together and engaged two years after this episode aired in 2016. Now they're not together anymore, but didn't last, but you know, maybe Tom had a hand in that magically, universe-wise anyway.

Madi (02:09:26.644)
Yeah.

Madi (02:09:30.791)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it didn't last,

Madi (02:09:39.987)
Yeah, you never know.

Holly Constant (02:09:42.841)
And then we've got Diane and Ron being really cute. Tammy too, coming here. Also jam. Like, what are you doing here? You weirdo. Why are you surrounding yourself with the people that you want to secede from? Probably because your secession thing failed and you're a loser.

Madi (02:09:52.554)
Peace.

Yeah, and he's lonely. We saw that in the referee episode, like, and he just doesn't... He has to be the villain, but he wants to be with everybody.

Holly Constant (02:09:57.061)
He's so lonely.

Holly Constant (02:10:07.025)
Yeah, because he thinks that he's like best friends with Leslie and Ron. Like he says that frequently. But I mean, that's the truth with a lot of these intel's and people that are losers. It's like, or act like a loser. It's like, they're just lonely and need to be loved, they just, it's ironic because they're doing it to themselves.

Madi (02:10:11.443)
Yeah, there's.

Madi (02:10:21.482)
Yeah.

Madi (02:10:26.303)
Yeah. Yep.

Holly Constant (02:10:28.037)
But then Ron distracts him by getting Jam to be with Tammy. And like, I don't really remember this part of the episode either where like they have a like, like a planning session, if you will, between Ron and Diane. I feel like it just kind of happened. I don't remember them like showing us like we're gonna plot them together. It was more of just, yeah. It was more of like the camera just showed us, the two nastiest people are getting together. You know what I mean?

Madi (02:10:43.423)
Yeah.

Madi (02:10:47.975)
That's a good point.

Holly Constant (02:10:55.951)
because Tam, and like I think the audience was led to believe like Tammy was gonna make Ron jealous or whatever it is. But it was really like Ron and Diane's idea, which I like. Mm-hmm.

Madi (02:11:07.231)
Yeah, I kind of like that too. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:11:12.581)
Let's see. Yeah, they do this on purpose. and then we have Barney coming back again, just when you thought that everybody could have come back. my God. In true awkward Barney fashion, he just appears behind this brick pillar and scares Ben. It's like, it's me, Barney from the accounting firm. You don't have to introduce yourself every time. I do this sometimes, because I'm like, just in case you don't remember.

Madi (02:11:17.629)
Ew.

Madi (02:11:28.021)
Yeah. I'm little bit injured. Yeah.

Madi (02:11:33.802)
Yeah.

Yeah, I do that too in like email and stuff. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:11:39.826)
Totally. And just a friendly reminder, I'll post it in the show notes, but we interviewed John Balma, who plays Barney, and he is fantastic and so good. Everyone speaks about him so well. You know, the guest stars that have worked with him and stuff, so love him. But so sweet and such a wonderful surprise, especially coming off of the last episode, that he got the copyright to Cones of Dunshire. And it's so thoughtful. He formed a C-Core and...

Madi (02:11:46.495)
Yeah.

Madi (02:12:00.895)
Yes.

Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:12:07.947)
He said, and then Ben is like, how can I repay you? my gosh. Like, yes, I'll come back to work. And then I can't, I'm moving. my God.

Madi (02:12:15.786)
my gosh, it's like Ben, don't give the false hope again, man.

Holly Constant (02:12:19.971)
I know, but it also shows how much Ben just like would love to work with him. Shortest one yet. What a short little like moment for for John Balmer, like the guest star to just come on for like a brief second and be like, hey, I did this awesome thing for you. And yeah, like as a friendly reminder, last episode he said like, man, it's too bad I didn't get the copyright on that. And Barney is so thoughtful and such a lovely friend person.

Madi (02:12:24.391)
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

Madi (02:12:30.464)
Yeah.

Madi (02:12:37.184)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:12:48.527)
that he did it for him without even being asked.

Madi (02:12:51.657)
Yeah, yeah, he's a sweetheart.

Holly Constant (02:12:54.225)
But yeah, I was mad at Ben too. I was like, come on, man. Don't do this to him. Keep breaking his heart. OK, so now Tammy and Diane are talking. Again, I don't remember this part. I think that this was cut. But I do love it that Diane and Ron are working together to get the two most terrible people on the planet slash in Pawnee together. Because Diane says that she used to date Jam when really that was not true.

Madi (02:12:56.779)
Yes.

Madi (02:13:00.158)
I know.

Madi (02:13:07.357)
No. Agreed. Yeah.

Madi (02:13:19.935)
Right.

Holly Constant (02:13:21.113)
I do love Diane's line of like, don't want to fight you or do whatever it is you're suggesting. Cause she's like, it's either a fight or sex fight. I don't know. Cause it definitely seems like Tammy Choo would have like some sort of threesome situation if that was the way she could get with Ron, you know? my God. And then this line I totally think was cut. And if it wasn't, how would that get on network TV? The, I wonder if the carpet is as curly as the drapes.

Madi (02:13:25.565)
Yeah. Because it's not clear.

Yeah.

Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

Madi (02:13:49.513)
I think you're right, I think it was added, that was so bad. Yeah. Yikes.

Holly Constant (02:13:53.105)
So funny. So Tammy. my God. Okay, so we don't really talk about this, but I read online that this is Diane's last episode. She doesn't come back on in season seven.

Madi (02:14:04.925)
Yeah, she doesn't come back in season seven. Yeah, I know, very sad.

Holly Constant (02:14:07.409)
So sad. But I'm so glad that she's here to kind of round this season out. Lucy Lawless is fantastic.

Madi (02:14:13.897)
Yeah, agreed. yeah. And us getting to see him with the girls too was such a great reminder of who he's become.

Holly Constant (02:14:21.345)
Mm-hmm. Yes. Thousand percent. So Andy and April are talking now, and they say they're going to get divorced so they can get married again. And they're like so in love that they just want to relive their marriage again, which is hilarious.

Madi (02:14:35.206)
Yeah. Ivan and I talk a joke about that all the time. Especially about our weekend for our wedding. You know, having all your favorite people in the same place and just getting to celebrate. We talk about that all the time. Like, we could have another wedding, but we have to get divorced first.

Holly Constant (02:14:38.59)
Ha ha ha!

Holly Constant (02:14:43.299)
huh.

Holly Constant (02:14:47.536)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:14:52.988)
Yeah, I feel like the time travel would be really funny too, to just like experience it all over again, as opposed to like planning it all over again. You know what mean?

Madi (02:14:56.135)
Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, true.

Holly Constant (02:15:03.285)
so Dr. Saperstein now says he wants to invest as a partner. Okay. Get out of here, sir. He's always looking for businesses and he already has some currently. He actually mentions a dry cleaning transactional company that's doing well that he owns. And that is exactly the company that Ben said to start before Tom's Bistro. that's crazy. I would actually love that to be a part of like Park's lore that Dr. Saperstein has spies everywhere to like steal ideas that they hear about. Amazing.

Madi (02:15:08.605)
Red flag, yeah.

Madi (02:15:17.245)
Yep.

Madi (02:15:21.757)
Right?

Madi (02:15:30.491)
Gosh, that'd be so funny. my gosh. Yeah, absolutely.

Holly Constant (02:15:33.679)
But I love that they brought that back. That's really hilarious. And I love that Tom said no. Like, yeah, what did you think of that?

Madi (02:15:40.745)
Yeah, yeah, no, I agree with you. think, um, he's got this, he's got this confidence, like he had this investor that backed out on him and look, he put out a really like successful evening. So I think he's having this, this boost of confidence to say, you know, I don't really need you. Like I'm doing okay. And I'm proud of him.

Holly Constant (02:15:54.833)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (02:16:01.072)
Yeah. And also, even if you want it, me too. I'm proud of him too. I was going to say, even if he needs an investor, I feel like we should cut the tie with Dr. Saperstein, because only bad comes from that. You know what I mean? You can have another investor or partner, but not him.

Madi (02:16:10.993)
Yeah, so true.

Yeah, yeah, no, you can't trust him. Look what he did with your first business. He also raised John Ralphio and Lisa, so.

Holly Constant (02:16:19.959)
Yeah, trust has to be there.

Holly Constant (02:16:25.019)
Clearly some judgment is missing there. With business, he seems to be on the ball, with his... So there is a boundary there, but still, no, it's just muddy and we don't want that.

Madi (02:16:26.599)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, true.

Holly Constant (02:16:38.063)
Also, you had mentioned this last episode, but I saved it for this one because I wanted to meet the chef. Like, we, I know it's not super important, but like, who is cooking these great Italian meals? Like, how did he find them? Is he paying them an actual chef's salary? Like, the fact that it's Italian and he's not Italian, I'm like, how are you pulling this off? You know?

Madi (02:16:44.179)
Yeah.

Madi (02:16:54.473)
Yeah, who is your chef? that's he did he Saperstein says it's the best Italian food he's had and he's been to Dallas. I don't know what that means.

Holly Constant (02:17:02.481)
Which is such a funny moment. I think that's just showing he's never had good Italian food, like actual Italian food.

Madi (02:17:07.471)
Yeah, fair, yeah, so funny.

Holly Constant (02:17:11.771)
my god. But maybe it's a different meaning to that joke, but I think my point still lands. But yeah, I just thought that was really interesting. yeah. I just think it's funny, like, is it a friend, like his other staff, or I'm sure he did some research on it, but they just didn't have time to show it in the show, but I would be very interested.

Madi (02:17:13.341)
Yeah, think it, yeah, think yours is right.

Madi (02:17:30.415)
Yeah, I think he probably did the same thing that he did with the sommelier.

Holly Constant (02:17:35.121)
Mmm, maybe. Did some research on that, true.

Madi (02:17:38.833)
Yeah, those are the things you don't want to mess up as like a chef and if you're going to be fancy enough to have a sommelier, whereas like waitresses and stuff like are probably easier to find.

Holly Constant (02:17:40.879)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:17:44.625)
Totally.

Yeah, Anyways, so it is interesting that he still considers it though. He doesn't immediately say no to Dr. Saperstein. He kind of like thinks about it. So I thought that was really interesting.

Madi (02:17:57.171)
Reserved.

Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:18:01.562)
Then he says he wants to snap a Yui of Kay Hanley, which is a selfie of other people. no, I don't like that.

Madi (02:18:06.792)
I don't like that either at all. No percent of me likes that.

Holly Constant (02:18:13.009)
Oh, yikes. So, OK, this is where we get the amazing news. The evening is wrapping up. We're trying to get our goal. Ben says their goal is for 2000 signatures in support of the merger. And then we have this kind of anticipation moment where we're not sure if he's going to say we succeeded. And it sounds like they got almost 4000. So almost double the signatures that they needed. Oh, so wonderful to end it this way.

Madi (02:18:40.709)
Yeah, agreed. Beautiful.

Holly Constant (02:18:42.755)
I also love her dress, by the way. It's really pretty. They look really good. And this is where Leslie gives a speech that introduces Tom, the man who puts the beast in bistro. That's actually so smart. I never would have thought of that. Ew, and then Jam and Tammy too look so gross like gurgling water. That's disgusting in each other's mouths. That truly despicable. They did such a good job together.

Madi (02:18:45.123)
Mm-hmm. Yeah, agreed.

Madi (02:18:57.241)
I like that, it's cute.

Madi (02:19:05.253)
I did nail it.

Madi (02:19:09.519)
Yeah, yeah, truly so gross. Yeah, agreed.

Holly Constant (02:19:13.656)
my God. Okay. So do you have anything before we get to the City Hall moment?

Madi (02:19:21.061)
I just love that comment. They're just gonna make each other so miserable.

Holly Constant (02:19:24.525)
Yes, that's true. Because, boy, do they. In the next season.

Madi (02:19:28.985)
Yeah, don't they, don't they? Yeah. Anyway, on to City Hall.

Holly Constant (02:19:32.785)
Yes. Okay. Yes. So back at City Hall, Ron and Leslie are talking in their new third floor that Ron clearly renovated all by himself. And Leslie is sad because she has no takers to go to Chicago with her and she really doesn't want to leave Pawnee, but you know, she's choosing the hard thing. And it's funny, Ron has this line that he says with her courage and small frame, she'd be a good coal miner. I thought that was funny.

Madi (02:20:00.944)
Thank you.

Holly Constant (02:20:02.226)
Question mark? Okay, this is my second favorite part in addition to the Bobby Night Ranger thing, where I did not know really about this episode. I said this in the last episode, but this is where we're getting to it, where he says the sentence, it's time for you to move up in the world, which is so loaded because A, I did not catch that they are literally going to be moving up floors. I did not catch that before. Did you catch that before, like you watched slash analyzed this? Did you know that?

Madi (02:20:17.754)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (02:20:26.427)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (02:20:32.558)
Not before I analyzed it. No.

Holly Constant (02:20:32.785)
because that would be really smart. Okay. I was like, that would be really smart and I missed it. But yeah, as I'm analyzing, I'm like, my God, they're literally moving up from the first floor to the third floor, first of all. And secondly, the episode is called Moving Up, which I think I didn't really catch that either until I analyzed it because I think I just thought like, it's a general term, casual term of like moving up in the world. Like, here we go. But the literal and the figurative come together really well here. And I loved it so much.

Madi (02:20:42.544)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:21:02.641)
Bitch.

Madi (02:21:03.652)
Yeah, they did a great job with that.

Holly Constant (02:21:05.569)
Yes. And then I love here the true Leslie Ron fashion too of like, can't have everything you want. And then she's like, my God, I can have everything I want. Because Ron says that one line that gets her gears going.

Madi (02:21:17.806)
Yep. Yep.

Holly Constant (02:21:19.225)
And then as she's walking out, she mentions Duke Silver, which is hilarious. You need to teach me to play the saxophone. OK, bye. And I'm hilarious. What did she say? I'm furious, but I've also forgiven you or whatever, and you need to teach me to play the saxophone.

Madi (02:21:25.029)
Yeah.

Madi (02:21:31.202)
Yeah, I've already forgiven you. exactly. I don't know why the government spent money to renovate this floor if they didn't already have a plan for it.

Holly Constant (02:21:35.12)
Ugh.

Holly Constant (02:21:40.489)
I know that's a good call yeah that's a good call well they didn't spend any money on it I guess though yes they did because they said that they would pay him pay Ron okay got it like right yeah wild well we're just gonna forget about that and give them some grace I guess

Madi (02:21:51.192)
Yeah, they had hired that group already.

Holly Constant (02:22:02.609)
All right, we're getting to the end. Oh my God, I'm getting emotional. What's happening? All the Parks Department is together on this new, beautiful, shiny floor. Something serious is going on. Like, we have not seen them all together on this floor and we don't know what's happening, why they're there. They're clearly in a position of power slash position of they are presenting something. Poor Grant with all this Parks BS and Leslie's binders. He's like, can I just, can you please just sign this fucking paperwork?

Madi (02:22:21.114)
her.

Holly Constant (02:22:31.311)
done with this yet. But my god, good job, Grant. You got it though in the end. But okay, big deal. Leslie is making this pitch that the best version of her being Midwest Regional Parks Director is not in Chicago. It's here in Pawnee. And as an audience member, like if I had never watched this before, I'm like, Whoa, what? What's happening? Like, I did not expect this. I did not anticipate this.

Madi (02:22:32.835)
Yeah, my gosh. I'd be over it.

Holly Constant (02:23:00.881)
That we're staying here because we had just this build up to Chicago has been so massive that you're just like well what okay and grant plays along and is like why? How so? She says the financial savings here are enormous cost of living is lower Pawnee is actually closer to most of the parks in the Midwest region Which side note I looked that up and that is not true

Madi (02:23:09.134)
Madi (02:23:24.579)
Yeah, I could tell on the map. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:23:27.439)
Like that is just thrown in there for good measure, but that's okay. It's also close to Tom's bistro says Tom. I love that Donna has this like balance of like, nope, that's not what we're doing right now, but congratulations. And yeah, free wifi says April, amazing. And here we go with another binder and he doesn't immediately dismiss it, which I think, like I said, is just props to him.

Madi (02:23:56.1)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (02:23:56.818)
I love that Andy says, you bring back Power Rangers? And he does look like a Power Ranger, doesn't he? I think he does.

Madi (02:24:02.98)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:24:07.721)
Um, I don't know if you saw this, but there's another wild fact that the next season is set in 2017 and that was the year that Power Rangers was actually rebooted.

Madi (02:24:14.148)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (02:24:18.767)
Isn't that weird? What the fuck?

Madi (02:24:20.772)
There's a couple of weird ones. I have one that I'm so excited to talk about. So, yeah.

Holly Constant (02:24:25.063)
my God, I can't wait. So then we get a one month later caption card, whatever, screen card, whatever thing, because we don't actually end on like Grant saying yes or no. And then Leslie has this beautiful moment. my God, I just love it so much. It really does make me emotional when she says sometimes you have to make the hardest climb to see the most beautiful sunrise and.

Madi (02:24:32.941)
her.

Madi (02:24:49.924)
Holly Constant (02:24:50.755)
She said she read that on an old lady's throw pillow, is hilarious of a detail. And this is the part where you get to like, wow, maybe they don't have another season because she's packing all her boxes. She's taking them to another floor. She is wrapping up. this is where as an audience member, you could be like, okay, we're done with the season and this was great.

Madi (02:24:55.287)
Yeah.

Madi (02:25:04.238)
Mmm.

Holly Constant (02:25:14.051)
And I love this talking head so much where she says, my legs are tired and I'm starving, but the sun is rising over a sea of love and waffles and possibility. It's so beautiful. And to see her office bare was jarring to me. I was like, my God, this is it. It's wild. Yeah. And then she hangs this picture of them, all the parks department people in an empty office. There's nothing else on the wall.

Madi (02:25:26.786)
Yeah.

Like, yeah.

Madi (02:25:33.987)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:25:43.843)
and then you zoom into the picture, which I think they did a, this is a fantastic job, and this is where Mike Schur was talking about, what if we did a cliffhanger situation instead of scrapping everything we already had? So they zoom into the picture, and then we get this transition cut zooming out of the picture to a full office with that same picture of where they started, and like, there's chaos going on, there's desks, there's new people, like, who are these new fucking people? There's pictures all, like, added pictures all over the wall, including the map.

Madi (02:25:51.875)
Mmm.

Madi (02:26:08.044)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:26:12.303)
And this is really what I love so much about the show. And I do think they do this on purpose where they always remember where they started and where they came from. And that picture is an illustration of like, this is the team. This is who built us. You know what I mean? And it's so, so beautiful. And then they have this like West Wing type vibe where the camera is following her walking and it's three years later. my God, it's so good.

Madi (02:26:19.512)
Yeah.

Madi (02:26:36.725)
It's yeah, it's so well done. Yeah. I love it. And again, watching watching her work is like, you really could have just left it there seeing her survive and in Pawnee and being a boss bitch.

Holly Constant (02:26:38.353)
I love it. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:26:52.389)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And also like this reminds me of when she said to Ben when they were doing the welcome to Pawnee sign, like, what if I'm not good at it? What if I can't do the like not hands on stuff? Like then you see her doing the not hands on stuff, but also being hands on. Like she found a balance it looks like. And it's really lovely to see that and to see her actually succeeding in this.

Madi (02:27:02.114)
Hmm.

Madi (02:27:09.397)
Yeah. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:27:16.113)
And doing what she's always been meant to do and what she always knew she could do and what everyone else knew she could do, but to see that fear kind of quelched because she's so busy and doing the thing, it's really amazing.

Madi (02:27:25.056)
Yeah, agreed. That's so great.

Holly Constant (02:27:29.411)
And then we come with, John Hamm is here! What the fuuuuck? Where is Ed with the files? He's the best.

Madi (02:27:32.456)
I know! Jon Hamm!

I love Jon Hamm, Like, he's great. He comes on SNL just for no reason all the time. And I'm like, he just loves his comedy.

Holly Constant (02:27:45.766)
Yeah, and do you remember him on 30 Rock too? my God, so good. He plays this dumb surgeon who just kind of fails up because he's so handsome and everyone just gives him opportunities. He's always on these shows as a complete dummy. I love that he doesn't take himself seriously because he can do that, but can also do serious drama like Mad Men, like insane. He's also on this new show on Apple TV, Friends with Neighbors, where it's also very serious. You guys should watch that too, check that out.

Madi (02:27:48.961)
Yeah.

Madi (02:27:55.264)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Madi (02:28:00.884)
I know, I love that.

Madi (02:28:06.754)
Yeah. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:28:14.245)
But it's just hilarious. And this was a surprise appearance arranged through his friendship with Amy Poehler and Adam Scott. Like, I found this Vanity Fair article, which shout out to Vanity Fair. They've been really helping me with a lot of these BTS moments. It says, wanted him to do this little cameo thing and we wanted to keep it super secret. And he was like, I'll just show up and do it. Don't even make me an offer. Don't put it through the proper channels. I'll just show up and deal with it later. And it's such a menshy thing to do. Mensch, like he's a mensch.

Madi (02:28:20.949)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:28:43.659)
You know, let's see, says you might know this, but he's a pretty in demand actor these days. But we did talk about the possibilities of seeing how Ed was hired or something. Maybe if he's free, he'll drop by again and we can get another tiny glimpse into the horrible three year career of Ed, the National Park Service worker. If I have my way, every episode where you see events that take place before that moment, which who knows how many that will be, will include a shot of him doing something insanely incompetent.

Madi (02:28:44.012)
Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (02:29:11.525)
He's basically like the new Jerry in a way, except for Ed gets fired. Cause it's like, that's true John Hamm fashion where he comes on really quickly and then leaves.

Madi (02:29:13.855)
Yes.

Madi (02:29:22.601)
Yep. Yep.

Holly Constant (02:29:24.655)
Also love that Leslie has bangs now. That's exciting. I feel like that's a funny way for a lot of TV shows to show the passage of time is change their hairstyle. So now, okay, so now Larry is Terry. This is where we transition to him being Terry. And Leslie says to cancel her flight to South Dakota, and we don't know what that's about yet.

Madi (02:29:27.007)
Yes, I like we see that transition too. Yeah.

Madi (02:29:35.807)
Yeah. Yeah. Solid.

Mm-hmm.

Holly Constant (02:29:48.187)
Ben is in a tux for some reason, this is what we talking about before. Apparently he has some special night going on and they say just hear what they have to say. And so that's another cliffhanger moment where we're like, hear what who has to say, what are we talking about? And then Andy and April come in with the triplets, that's so exciting.

Madi (02:29:51.286)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (02:30:05.405)
Yeah, I love seeing that.

Holly Constant (02:30:07.543)
Aunt April and Uncle Andy, that's so nice. How many bags of marshmallows do I give them? None.

Madi (02:30:10.039)
Okay, Andy. Yeah.

Madi (02:30:15.851)
None.

Andy.

Holly Constant (02:30:19.121)
And then this is kind of where Adam Scott's character or whatever says, no, will never be calm and normal in response to Leslie saying like one day things will be calm and normal. Like, come on, Leslie, you know they never will be. You've learned enough, but she's so cute. I feel like she's always, yeah, we always do that I feel as adults where we're like, just get to the end of this week or just get to the end of this year and it'll be easier. And it's like, no, I'm guilty of this too.

Madi (02:30:31.617)
Yeah.

You've done this long enough, yeah. She has hope.

Madi (02:30:42.942)
Yeah.

Madi (02:30:46.868)
Mm-mm. yeah, all the time.

Holly Constant (02:30:49.489)
But it's that damn positive attitude that always gets us in trouble sometimes, you know?

Madi (02:30:53.544)
Yes, it's the optimism.

Holly Constant (02:30:56.261)
Great, and seeing the potential. So then, yeah, this is the beautiful part that we've kept mentioning and circling around, but this is where we're finally here, this actual cliffhanger where they get into the elevator, Ben asks if she's ready, and Leslie says, nope, but that's never stopped us before. The elevator shuts and then they cut to black. Like, it's really cinematic, actually. I think it's one of the more cinematic times that they've had apart from, I don't know why this comes to my head, but the one other like cinematic

Madi (02:31:13.792)
Yeah.

Madi (02:31:18.099)
It is.

Holly Constant (02:31:25.359)
quote unquote shot was like when when Donna Finds that April or somebody has been putting a bad Review on Yelp for the dog adoption and they do that pan up where she looks like she's like a superhero and they're like I'm gonna go Mjolnir on him. That's like The two most cinematic ones like times that I've seen it and so beautiful and so clearly the writers have some idea what's happening next because the next season

Madi (02:31:33.625)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (02:31:40.692)
Yeah, the only other time, yeah.

Madi (02:31:47.284)
Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:31:51.834)
like opens right where they left off coming right out of the elevator. And we'll get to that later. But I think it's like worth mentioning that like it does not really have any sort of pause moment in between. It just starts immediately where they left off in the next season. So it's so good and so beautiful. I love it. Well, that's the end of my notes. We did you say you had something or was that for next season?

Madi (02:32:07.88)
Right, right back in.

Madi (02:32:12.574)
Yeah, agreed.

Madi (02:32:17.801)
Mine too.

Holly Constant (02:32:22.223)
Like one of the things, I see. okay, gotcha. Okay, so you've started reviewing already.

Madi (02:32:22.558)
next season. It's one of the future telling things.

no, it's been in my head for the entirety of time because it's one of my favorite moments.

Holly Constant (02:32:33.681)
okay, is it like a BTS thing or just like a favorite scene you have? okay, okay, great. I'm very excited.

Madi (02:32:37.276)
No. It's just a favorite moment. Yeah. It'll, I'll point it out when I'm saying it and you'll be like, okay. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:32:45.613)
Okay, great. Yay! my gosh, you guys. Well, thank you so much for listening. This was truly, like, so fun to review and so massive amount of time has been taken into this editing and the social media posts and the research and all these things. So I hope that you guys enjoy it and I hope that you'll rate and review so that we can, I don't know, get some traction maybe.

Madi (02:32:53.408)
Mm-hmm.

Madi (02:33:08.999)
Yeah. Yeah.

Holly Constant (02:33:10.031)
But if I missed anything, because I know I probably did, because this episode was so jam packed, let us know. I've been liking seeing your constructive comments on the social media stuff and YouTube and whatever. Obviously, don't be mean to me, but just point something out and don't be sassy either. I've seen the sassy comments where you try not to be sassy, but you are sassy.

And I get it. It is funny too, because I have to have grace too, because I think some people see social media and they don't listen to the podcast. So I'll post something and then it's like, you don't get the full context with just the video, because that's why you have to listen to the podcast. And then they'll comment and I'm like, but I said that. But that's just the internet. It's okay. At least you're being engaged. So that's fine.

Madi (02:33:32.639)
man, yeah.

Madi (02:33:39.529)
Uh-huh.

Madi (02:33:45.0)
Right.

Madi (02:33:50.399)
Yeah.

Madi (02:33:54.599)
Yes, engagement is nice.

Holly Constant (02:33:56.561)
Okay everyone, well thank you so much and we'll see you on the next season. We're not sure when exactly that will be, but we'll see you then. Thanks for listening.

Madi (02:34:05.823)
See you next time.

Holly Constant (02:34:09.106)
K!
